Thanks for the responses. All were valid points and important things to consider. Reading this board has been helpful during this whole process. In the end, the bottom line for him was where he wanted to serve. He can accomplish what he wants no matter the degree. He just has to make the...
DS was selected early for NROTC at his 1st choice school. Here at the last minute, he was offered an appointment to the CGA. Obviously, great options and we are thankful but he is now stressed on the decision because he has to decide this weekend. He is truly torn. He has always loved the...
The recruiting guys here were great with my son. We visited with them last spring about NROTC and Navy Reserve as a backup in case he chose one of his favorites schools that did not have NROTC and they began pushing him on the NROTC application right away which we had planned anyway. They...
I've seen this mentioned a few times as it was said to my DS when he attended AIM last summer but why were they told not to apply in EA but to wait for RA. I don't understand that logic. Based on the number of offers that went out in EA, seems like he should have done it then. He has been...
Once you've been notified of the scholarship and accepted it, how long before you hear anything else or get anything in the mail. Should you contact the commanding officer at the school or wait until you have information in hand. We were considering another visit to the college in April before...
No, it was not documented but reported by those you noted above. The source is the AAU which has a limited membership of colleges and a limited survey. Also, ask yourself questions about the survey. How many students responded, who was likely to respond, what are the definitions in the...
Sorry but I not only question that article but the author as well.
As quoted, "One in five women report being a victim of sexual assault while studying at America’s colleges and universities today. Another study determined that one in four college women have survived rape or attempted rape...
Good thought. I haven't viewed it like that and it is a relevant point. My thought process was the fact that he was recommended to the sponsor who pulled him aside to ask him to do it. I guess the question would be does the board view it similar to as you said, an activity they will do versus...
DS was just asked to be the Chairman on a big student volunteer community project this spring at his high school. It is through Interact, a student branch of Rotary International. He is a member of Interact. Should we email this update to the admissions office and how much detail do you...
How important are the pull-ups? That is DS weakest point. His NROTC stats were 89 sit ups, 75 push ups and a 5:26 mile. He might get the shuttle below 8 but will be close. BB throw we are working on but think he can get 60 to 70. Quite honestly, pull-ups suck. No other way to say it.
Thanks for the input. I'm certainly not one to "count my chickens before the hatch." We are hopeful but certainly patient and will continue with alternative plans.
My son recently had his NROTC interview which according to him went very well. Surprisingly short however, the interviewer commented on how he could see his passion to serve and how well balanced his resume was. He's a swimmer, active in the church choir and youth group, class officer...
