Someone once told me that they thought it was used for security clearance checks and other purposes later on in the Navy career. I thought this seemed a bit odd, so someone correct me if I'm wrong

DD has accepted her appointment and sent in the birth certificate about a month back and received the birth certificate back. Any idea when the permit to report and securty clearance forms will come?

How in depth is the security clearance check? What do they even look for? I assume mostly everyone passes, but what are they looking for? Past trouble and things of that nature? Or do they call references on the SF 86? Do they confirm your resume and call coaches and teachers and things like...

Will the packet my DD sent in with her transcripts, resume, etc. get returned? Will it get thrown away? Also, will the MOC that nominated her release her resume and info to the press or will the local press contact us if they want a story? Thanks!
