Roller coaster I: Get You (The Parents) Through Plebe Year - Class of ‘27 🎢

Not anymore, unfortunately. Alcohol consumption and the after effects of irresponsible alcohol consumption were hot button issues during my time at USNA. You had to route chits for alcohol at Dining Out and stuff like that. Heck, I think there was even an SOP for them (like parading the beef had...

TD but waiver granted in the last 8 hours?

What @justdoit19 said. Waiver review is initiated by Admissions for competitive candidates and it gets sent over to the medical side of the house. Medical will decide if you are admissible from a medical standpoint only. In other words, a waiver just tells Admissions you are medically qualified...

Could I get in trouble for this "Promposal" idea?

You also seem like someone who would do the Preakness Challenge. 😂

Could I get in trouble for this "Promposal" idea?

Just keep in mind people are there to compete. Asking for a prom date is an innocent question, but if you go out seeking people out while they are trying to get ready/recover, then the athletes/coaches might take exception your actions.

Could I get in trouble for this "Promposal" idea?

It'd be funny to have your friends filming you and watching you strike out or pretty cool if it works out for you. That said, keep it off social media if you choose to do a video. Keeping the lowest profile possible before I-Day helps you stay under the radar initially. Detailers know which...

Could I get in trouble for this "Promposal" idea?

It's probably harmless. Nobody is going to go out of their way to try and get USNA to revoke your appointment. Nothing wrong with asking someone to go to prom with you. It might be a little weird asking people you don't know (I'd never do this personally), but as long as you don't harass the...

Roller coaster I: Get You (The Parents) Through Plebe Year - Class of ‘27 🎢

@OldRetSWO covered all of the big points. A lot of random traditions that would be better explained at the event itself. Of note, alcohol is now allowed and usually upperclass of age might have a drink or two before the event. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic grogs are available too. The grog is a...

    NASS Switch Question

From a former NASS Detailer and CFA administrator: I'd recommend taking the CFA again after NASS though. You take it pretty soon after traveling, not sleeping a lot, and a bit of a lifestyle shift. Not ideal leading up to game day. Plus, due to facility constraints and the size of the...

    Humanity major career advice.

Let's also not forget that the Navy offers multiple educational/professional opportunities throughout one's career. NPS, NWC, and TA are just some examples to get a Master's paid for by the Navy. There are also a lot of random programs to gain career experience/industry contacts. The Navy has...

ROTC vs SA vs Enlisting and their dq waiver process

SAs and ROTC are via DoDMERB and use different waiver authorities. Enlisting and OCS are done via MEPS. Definitely possible to get a waiver for an SA and not for ROTC or vice versa. MEPS is a bit foreign to me, so over to those who have more experience with that side of the house.

    Dilemma Over Future

Here are some things to consider: 1. USNA graduates predominately combat officers. You will most likely not be an engineer of the bat. You’ll be driving a ship, flying a plane, firing artillery rounds, etc. Your job might involve engineering, but you will likely not get a ton of the engineering...

C/O '26 parents - place to commiserate and share. Roller coaster for the next 3 years!

Hey everyone, I'll try and bring some clarity to the PCA process. So, the PCA is the Professional Competency Assessment aka Pro-Know for upperclassmen. There are two iterations of the PCA (3/C and 2/C). 3/C is a very in-depth examination covering a wide range of Navy knowledge. I remember having...

Roller coaster I: Get You (The Parents) Through Plebe Year - Class of ‘27 🎢

NAAA is an athletics blocker. If a MIDN plays a spring sport, playoffs or the last part of the season will take place during 0 Block events. The NAAA blocker is a blanket excusal from 0 Block activities so athletes can travel, practice, compete, and recover without having to worry about going to...

    NROTC Advanced Standing ADSO

College Program (CP) requires a 3 year ADSO. The main difference between CP and Scholarship MIDN is the fact that the Navy is paying for their school. It has been identified that a 5 year ADSO is a sufficient ROI for scholarship MIDN (and USNA MIDN). CP MIDN pay their own way, so that is why it...
