Drum & Bugle Corps - Pros & Cons

My DS was in D&B all four years at USAFA and loved it. It takes up a lot of time especially during football season but great friendships were made and I really believe it helped him become better at time management. He was an aero major and did well in that even with the hours of the day...

    Best Christmas present ever, but...

We experienced this last year. DD received an appointment (not an LOA) in early December, medical waiver denied in late December, and then denied again after the rebuttal process in March. The appointment was then rescinded in April. In May, DD received her official appointment certificate in...

    Confused about a waiver.

In our case, my DD was asked by USAFA to take a methacholine challenge, which she passed, but the waiver was denied anyway. The denial was this year for the class of 2024. Her waiver was denied last year by USAFA as well and her appointment rescinded. USNA approved the waiver last year but no...

    USAFA Waiver Request

They just want you to acknowledge receipt of the letter. They may then specifically ask for more information regarding your disqualification or you may see it in your DODMERB portal as well.

How long for USAFA to update Qualified DoDMERB status?

Ours took at least three weeks to get updated on the USAFA site once the Potential Pilot Qualified showed up on DODMERB

    Walk in clinic for exam?

My two kids were also assigned to a walk in clinic. Both physicals were completed this weekend. We put the date they were planning to go but then had to change one because of an issue with the dodmets website. We are about 1.5 hours from the clinic. We were there for two hours for one...

    DODMETS site

Anyone else having trouble with the DODMETS site? Both yesterday and today, we have tried to complete the medical survey, only to get kicked out at the end. For those that have successfully completed the survey, is there a prompt to print it? Thanks!

    June 28, 2018 In-Processing Day

If you are able, you might want to consider flying home the next day. The swearing in will be held the morning after I-Day around 9:00. This is an event you can watch from the chapel wall. You will easily be able to make an afternoon flight after it is over.

Question about Drum and Bugle Corps

My DS has been in Drum and Bugle his entire time at USAFA and is now a C1C about to graduate. Yes, it is a huge time commitment especially during football season. As Capri said, Drum and Bugle cadets do miss out on intramurals but I think just during the fall. Lots of great travel to include...

    TWE: Thin White Envelope?

It is possible to get the TWE, followed later by an appointment. This very thing happened to a good friend of ours. TWE in Feb, appointment in May. I imagine this doesn't happen often though.

    USAFA Drum and Bugle Corps

He did not switch to the baritone prior to arriving there. His first time to play it was during tryouts. I think that is the case for a lot of the cadets trying out. He does have his trombone there with him and has used it playing in the jazz band. Good luck and keep working hard! You will...

    USAFA Drum and Bugle Corps

My son, now a C1C, was a trombone player in high school. He now plays baritone for drum and bugle and is in his 4th year of doing so. Drum and Bugle does not have trombones. It is a big time commitment, especially during football season. Roughly 2 hour practices each day during the week...

    Drum and Bugle

My son has been in Drum and Bugle for two years and loves it. It does take up quite a bit of time during football season and the first year he was not able to come home for Thanksgiving because of a game. His arrival home at Christmas that year was delayed a bit because of a bowl game. His...

    Acceptance Day

The basics in my DS squad were allowed to call home just a few days before Acceptance day last year so we were able to coordinate then. We also told him in a letter that we would be there, just because I felt it would give him something to look forward to. Whether the visit is a surprise or...

    Acceptance Day

Definitely go if you are that close! I went last year and following the parade had until around 1:00 with my son and a few of his friends. As Blackbird said, take some food with you so your time isn't taken up standing in line! Enjoy that hug you'll get from your cadet!!
