Why do people attend the Academy?

I realize its not a popular opinion here but there are different opinions on this topic. I heard of quite a few cadets who in hindsight reflected they would have been better in AFROTC in their flagship state school as it would lead to more normal life as a student, and no less opportunities...

    Vehicle possession...

Reviving the old thread. When cadets bring the car for the remaining 2 years, do they have to transfer license to Colorado license? I presume so, otherwise eventually state inspection will expire. Any taxes cadets paid in Colorado on car registration, or yearly? VA has relatively heavy burden on...

Using College Savings for AFA Expenses

Sorry to revive an ancient thread, but I searched and could not find more recent posts relevant to the topic. Is there more up to date info than the one quoted here for Cost of attendance 6 years ago, specifically this table, found in one of the links to 2010 Jan newsletter? Expense Freshman...

    Parents Weekend Football game

Last year we bought $4 tickets/hot dogs/caps for $80 - thought it was a decent deal. Did not see it this year. Wife found someone in different area parent club distributing $27 tickets in $50 retail price section so we went with it. Let me know if you need contact for that deal. Like some other...

    Parents Weekend Football game

Last year we bought pack of 4 tickets$20 each. That pack includes usafa caps and hot dog for each. Tickets were in great location. This year our parents club was distributing 'discounted' tickets at $50 each. Not sure what's going on and I hope $20 tickets still available otherwise no game for...

    Vegetarian during BCT

My son who did BCT last year has been a vegetarian for a couple of years and it was a concern last year as well. no worries vegetarians are well taken care of during or after BCT, he was able to remain vegetarian and said food was better with more variety than what we had at home. Now he is...

    AOG / WEBGUY

I am with you on it. Nothing after BCT and even BCT was so much hassle to look through. interesting fact it appears photographers were taking several times more photos of girls than boys, especially if she appears to be cute. One girl in my son's squadron probably had 10 times more pictures than...

Life in Active Duty (ask a Captain anything)

How hard was double major, do you have regrets doing it and did you have to take summer classes? My son declared double major in math and aero engineering and I was trying to advice him against it and focus on one major since anyway the goal is to be a pilot or ALO/CRO/etc. Apparently counsellor...

    Parents Weekend Lodging

I followed that advice and took StayBridge Suites suite in Lone Tree for 6 people for like $113 a night (2 doubles in 1 room, expandable sofa for 2) for Friday to Mon. I believe it is a very decent price if you have 5 or 6 people in the family so hope this info helps someone. Ironically we...

Communication with Family during Academic Year?

We used Google Hangouts on our phones. Cell phone coverage varies from dorm to dorm and room to room but we have been lucky with T-Mobile.

    Parents Weekend Lodging

I know its an old thread but topic still relevant every year. Where would one stay as an alternative to Springs for 3rd and 4th night? Denver? Boulder?

Holiday break with your 4/c mid/cadet

Yours is actually goes above and beyond. Our Cookie DS would just leave luggage in the middle of the room unopened where it would stay for the whole duration of the break if I would not kick it into the corner.

Flight costs and not living at home anymore

I do not think Frontier gives any. Southwest did in the past. But DS did not want to wake up early for SW flight at 8.30 am yesterday so had to endure Frontier experience/ no TSA precheck/pass/snacks/middle seat assignment. To be honest Frontier was cheaper enough than Southwest from DC to...

Flight costs and not living at home anymore

We tried today to go into security line in DCA with our cadet (DC Reagan) and were turned back. No TSA precheck line for him either, had to wait long line, but this might be Frontier airline issue, still some airports allow people in uniform to do TSA pre even if their ticket does not mark so.

Can c4c go overseas for spring break

We deliberated and decided on Puerto Rico, it is US territory so does not need passports renewal (as all our passports have expired). Since its not continental US, probably needs permissions from Academy too but hopefully is easier to get.
