SCUBA Certified - A Desirable Skill for a USCGA Candidate?

It could be listed as an extracurricular but I seriously doubt it will be given more weight than a sports team or other established hobbies. - current cadet

    Fit Testing at USCGA

Yes, the fitness test is the same and will happen at the beginning of the summer and right before classes start (after the summer). The fitness test entering swab summer does not really hold any significance and will be overshadowed by the one you take after the summer. However along with...

    Dorm Life Concern

This should not really be a concern at all. Worrying that chase hall won't be straight edge enough has not been a problem for anyone I know.

    AIM Application

After we completed swab summer we heard from the AIM cadre that there had been some incidents with the physical exercise portion of AIM which will likely lead to a revised SOP regarding AIM.

    AIM Application

The rumors going around are that AIM is slowly going to become more similar to the other summer seminars than to a week of swab summer starting this year.

    Female combat

That is true! Don't show up to CGA wanting to become a rescue swimmer only to find out AST (rescue swimmer) is an enlisted position.

    PFE scores/acceptance

During swab summer you will take it and it will be pass fail 130 or higher. I would recommend getting your PFE to at least 180 before showing up or swab summer will be very challenging and not many people who scored below 180ish stayed.

    Freshman Year Academic Year

Everyone hypes up how hard the classes are here and how important time management are etc but really those classes are not too bad. If you do what you're supposed to do (actually reading assigned readings before class) and trust in the process you will be fine. Depending on your high school the...

    Female combat

No none of the positions are closed to women. As far as combat goes women can become boarding officers which involves weapons training and shoot houses and all that and then some boarding officers get picked up for TACLET if they're really good. Don't forget that the rescue swimmer program is...

Wait list: Is this good? Possible Appointment Available Later?

In case it doesn't work out know that the academy really values 2nd and 3rd time applicants and from what I've seen if someone's life dream is to go to CGA and they work for it they will get in -cadet

    General Questions about CGA

Currently to get the silver Star you must have a CER that is in the top 25% of your company for your class. Any class two or class one offenses disqualify a cadet (they wouldn't normally get a star anyway) and you must be recommended by your division and higher ups

    Wait List Questions

I did not think of that. I now understand the weight of the situation and will try to make a moral decision so I do not waste an opportunity someone else wanted.

    Wait List Questions

What would happen if I accept my appointment to USCGA but am then offered a spot off the wait list at another school? I know if you do this for a civilian school you simply break the deposit of where you committed but what are the repercussions of doing this for a service academy? A family...

    Still on the island thread

That sounds good. Do you know if people who do not get appointments but are on the wait list are offered NAPS or Foundation?

    Still on the island thread

I just received a spot on the wait list. Everyone probably already knows this but the letter said they sent out about 1300 appointments (note about), to fill a class of 1165 (seemed like a pretty exact number) and that the wait list generally has between 70 and 120 people on it. Using last...
