My son received the unfortunate news over the weekend that his Medical Waiver was denied by USNA. We are still pretty stunned by the decision. It really makes no sense, based on every reasonable measure, but unfortunately you just never know in this process…..

He was disappointed for about 24 hours, but quickly dusted himself off, and is ready to charge forward. Fortunately, he has set himself up well with “Plan B options”…..and those other options were Med Waiver Approved a few months ago. His future is bright.

I appreciate all the insight this board provided us over these past several months. There certainly is a tremendous group of individuals on here, with fantastic dreams and aspirations. Much luck to you all.

Im so sorry to hear about your son. Sometimes the admissions process is brutal. It makes you wonder what goes through their minds when they reject an applicant. Will he reapply next year?

You have a lot of decency and class, @RyanS to overcome the "sting" of a turndown and write this. Best of luck to your son: with such a great parental role model, I'm certain he will be successful.
I appreciate you saying that, means a lot.

Great question. I asked him, but I just don’t think he’s “there yet”. Part of me hopes he does. But I guess a bigger part of me hopes he loves next year so much he never looks back!

My DS went through the same thing. He did not get his waiver approved the first go around and wasn't sure if he would reapply. He went to a state school for a year and ultimately decided to reapply while there. He is currently finishing out his plebe year. It was a long and at time painful road, but time tends to make things clearer. Best of luck to you and your son.
