I just wanted to pop in to offer some hope for anyone reading this for a future board. My son submitted his application for the 2nd board. He was passed over the 2nd board and offered a 2-year ECP for the 3rd. He decided to decline the 2-year because it wasn’t the path he wanted. Flash forward to mid-May, and he was just offered a 3-year AD from his top school (a senior military college) as part of their allocation. The school also has 2 scholarships that recipients automatically get – 1 that covers room & board for the 3 years of his scholarship, and 1 that covers tuition, room & board (everything except books and his uniform) for the 1st year.
Our son is a very well-rounded young man, and while he definitely fits the SAL profile, he doesn’t top the charts in any of the areas. Until starting the college application process, we had no idea how high the bar is set for these high schoolers. It was VERY disheartening to see the stats of all the super-human kids posted in this forum, so I hope this post helps another family.
3.45 weighted GPA, 1170 SAT superscore, 26 ACT, school club founder/president, Eagle Scout (VERY involved in Scouts), part-time job, glowing letters of recommendation. He felt his PMS interview went well. Did ok on his PFA, but not great. He does martial arts, but running quickly is not in his skillset. Sports are not offered at his small charter-school. We also included letters of acceptance from all the colleges on his list (all of them were senior/junior military colleges), as well as his congressional nomination for West Point (he did not get accepted).
