MMI SAP Fall '24 Admission Parent's Group

Are there any spots in particular that the kids like to frequent? I appreciate your insight, thank you!
I have eaten at all of these with the exception of Lottie's and The Crab Box during my MMI visits. Diane's is the closest and in easy walking distance of campus. Chatino's is perhaps just under a mile away and is right in town, along with Lottie's and The Crab Box (which never seemed open). Chatino's seemed to be fairly frequented by MMI cadets, although from what I learned, most Service Academy Prep cadets seem to stay on campus and eat in the Mess Hall. The SAP cadets are quite busy studying!

So, our son is ready to Rock N Roll at MMI-SAP in the Fall. He was turned down by USAFA and waitlisted for Naval. We are making sure Plan B aka MMI is in place if Naval is a no as well. We are very excited to see how our son will grow at MMI under Col. Bowen's guidance. Where is everyone from? We are from the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

My DD is from the Nashville area and will attend as an AOG Wet Point scholar in the fall.

Hi all, my daughter will be going to MMI this fall- SAP program. We just visited last week for the first time. Would love to meet y'all- is there a group on facebook for MMI Class of 2025? Or something similar? Thanks!

My DS is an AOG West Point scholar from MA. We've lived all over the country, but we currently live south of Boston. I went to school in Nashville. Love that town! Look forward to meeting you.

DS will be attending this fall- I'm not sure of the process- we did do the housing deposit and heard from LTC Bowen...what's next? Super super excited for this journey these kids are embarking on!!!

My understanding is that LTC Bowen will set up a group chat with the students around the week of May 13th. Our understanding is that the students will report to post around Aug 1 and 2 according to their last name. The final academic calendar for next year is not set yet, but that is the general thought.
I got an old packing/supplies list from another parent. It seems like they won't have a lot of decisions to make in terms of what to bring. Honestly, I'm fine with that.
Which Academy is your DS pursuing? Looking forward to meeting you.

Hello everyone. Son was just offered a West Point AOG sponsorship and this mama is a bit overwhelmed on how to guide him on selecting the right prep school. Apologies if this is not the right forum, but curious why you all picked MMI. We knew about USMAPS, but didn’t know there were other options! Any and all advice welcome as we help him narrow down his options.

Also, he is still processing and initially took AOG offer as a rejection, but we think it’s a good thing. He won’t have a lot of time to decide and will likely not be able to visit campuses in advance as he’s about to enter HS finals and AP exams. We will start doing our outreach to the schools ASAP to educate ourselves but would love to learn from all of you as well. We are from West Coast.

We too, looked at it as a rejection, but now are completely excited for DD to attend MMI and have somewhat of a transition period. We researched GMC and MMI. We only visited MMI. LTC Bowen made the decision easy for us! He has a heart for his cadets. He knew each one's personal story. It is a very small campus with not much around so plenty of time to focus for those 10 months to make her dreams come true! My DD will be attending as an AOG scholar as well. LTC Bowen graduated from West Point and has a passion to see the cadets succeed. He is also in close contact with the admissions officers throughout the year. As an AOG cadet, it truly seems like a GOLDEN TICKET! Put in the work, get through the 10 months, and then receive your appointment!

2028: We became aware of the AOG program about 4 months ago, and we did not know how to take that. My DS was all about it right away. If that was his way to USMA, he was fine with it. Here are a few of my thoughts FWIW.
1) The chances of your DS getting into USMA next year are excellent with Civil Prep (advertised as 90%+). If West Point is his goal, this is a very solid path to get there.
2) The cost is very reasonable. Between the AOG scholarship and aid offered by the school, you are not looking at too much out of pocket.
3) Your student does not lose anything by going to MMI. It's a Junior College, so any credits they earn could be transferred to another school if he decides that the military route is not for him.
4) I have spoken with multiple West Point alums as well as the parents of current students. All agree that the students who go through the AOG program are more successful in their first year at the academy. We have a student in our neighborhood who is a first year cadet at West Point. We were talking to his mom last week, and, unprompted, she told us a story about how the first semester was a struggle for her son at West Point. She then said, "he has a friend who attended a prep school who's taken him under his wing, and he has been such a huge help."
5) I agree with Mamarowe re: LTC Bowen. Your student will be in good hands.
6) We picked MMI because it is an actual Junior College. The other available prep schools are High Schools with JUCO programs attached. I didn't want my son to feel as though he was going back to High School, and you don't have to worry about that with MMI.
7) The advice I gave my son when this came up was, "your biggest struggle here will be your ego. Once you get past that, one year is nothing in the long run. Nobody will ever know after you graduate that you spent a year at prep." I will have to say that that advice was more advice for myself. My son's ego was fine. My ego has been a little bruised because I wanted him to get the appointment, and explaining prep to people is hard. They see it as a rejection too because they don't understand. It's a different path.

As crazy as it all sounds, we are actually hoping that he does not get an appointment this year. He got a thick envelope from Cadet Command the other day. My wife was like, "Oh no. I hope it's not an appointment to West Point. I really want him to do prep." Turns out that it was paperwork for the 3 YR ROTC scholarship he got. We were both relieved.

Bottom Line: I'm a huge fan of the AOG program and MMI. The risk is low, and the reward is high. We visited the campus in April, and the staff there is solid. If you are still on the fence, I'm happy to chat on the phone or online. Just send me a message.

Hi LLPOH. Not sure how to DM or reach you directly through this forum. Would love to chat offline. Hoping our DS connects this August. We are still shopping for the right prep but don’t have a lot of time.

@2028son I think you need one more post to message privately. I think 5 are required. Feel free to message me as well. My DS is finishing up his year in the SAP program at MMI. He was an AOG sponsored cadet. Headed to USMA July 1.

2028son: I sent you a message with my contact details.

My DS will be attending MMI as a Falcon Scholar in the fall. He accepted his Falcon Scholarship about 10 days ago. We still haven't heard anything from either MMI or the Academy at this point. Is he supposed to apply directly to MMI or is that part of accepting the offer? He hasn't received one word of communication at this point so anything you can tell us would be helpful. Thanks!
