Hello, I am in the process of applying to West Points SLE and was wondering if all the application consists of is the candidate questionnaire, the " SLE Application Preferences" with the week selection, and your ACT scores? I have already completed these, but it seems kind of short. Am I missing anything or is that all? Also, I have a question pertaining to the actual application to West Point. I currently have a "West Point Candidate Portal" set up but the actual application to the Academy is no where to be found. The closest thing I can find to it is in the application overview which states that
"This evaluation will not begin until approximately July 1, 2015 at the earliest for most candidates to USMA 2020." Is this when applicants can first get into the actual application or is that for something else? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
-Thanks

Yes, the SLE application I remember was very short too. And yes as well, your full application will not open until the earliest late June / early July.

Though your full application is not open yet, that doesn't mean that there is nothing to do this spring.
1) take and send in official test scores. I would do both the ACT and SAT this spring and figure out which one you do better on.
2) apply for boys/girls state
3) depending on your school, you may need to run for leadership positions for your senior year late this spring.
4) send in your transcripts at the end of the semester
5) towards the end of the semester, talk to your English, math, and chem/physics teacher to see about them doing your evaluations and if they will do it over the summer (key task is you'll need to get their contact information for the summer time).
6) start training for the CFA. If you get selected for SLE, you'll want to do well on it. If you don't, recommend taking to a PE teacher to see if they'll give it to you over the summer when your application opens up.
7) find events in your area:
A) your RC should be traveling this spring giving presentations. Go to it and meet them. Have something to say or a meaningful question to ask.
B) around spring break, cadets should be home, some officially to visit schools
C) your congressional rep may have a service academy night which is a good chance to meet the people that control the nominating process.

my candidate portal includes sections on sports and extra-curriculars so if you haven't found/completed that portion of your SLE app, you'll want to make sure you do!!

Yep. have already filled that out but forgot to mention it. Thanks for checking.

It seems as if you think there is one definitive application form, Sam S. Your entire application is really just pieces of the puzzle that have to be taken care of. When the portal says it will open on 1 July, this means that a lot of things you have to complete will then be available.

The application itself is nowhere close to any civilian college, in which everything can be filled out on one or multiple forms. The USMA application is complex. For example, your candidiate statements (essays) are submitted online, your medical exam requires you to go see a doctor, and the CFA requires completing fitness events. Some of the pieces will open on 1 July, but everything else happens at different times.
