Screw in wrist

I recently received a 3 year AROTC scholarship and I'm currently starting the DoDMERB process.

I broke the scaphoid bone in my wrist 3 years ago and had to have surgery to get a screw to fix the bone.

I have been medically cleared to do everything as if I had never fractured my wrist. I play 2 sports and I'm very active.

Will having a permanent screw in my wrist automatically DQ me from DoDMERB?

Oh boy - this is our specialty! DS broke right scaphoid twice (soph/junior year in HS) got a screw the second time, then applied to USNA. DODMERB gave him a remedial which was easily cleared when he submitted all the records, including the final "all clear" note from his surgeon. Fast forward to senior year, DS receives December appointment to USNA, learns he has a broken left scaphoid (injured it earlier in the season - he's a soccer goalkeeper), has more extensive surgery to repair this one (December of senior year), is eventually DQ'd by DoDMERB but USNA begins the waiver process. Waiver was approved and the letter was received just this week!

You should be just fine if you have no residual weakness, but I suggest gathering all the records NOW related to your injury and follow-up care - they may request them.

Good luck!

Just to back this up- a disqualification you would receive would look something like "disqualification for residual weakness of upper extremity". With surgery records and an all clear from your doctor, you would easily get a waiver.

The worst they would ask for is a copy of new X-rays to show no evidence of non-union (been there, done that). Good luck!
