Height/Weight requirement

My son has his physical tomorrow. He attended Summer seminar and AIM, and did very well on the CFA and PFE. He is is great shape, runs and wrestles. He was told not to exercise prior to the test due to the possibility of exercise induced protein showing up in the urine test. According the DoDMerb Ht/Wt scale, he may be over by around 3-5 pounds. Depending on his Ht. (he is 5"7 3/4" without shoes and 5'8" with shoes), I am assuming they will round up to 68". If he ran and worked up a good sweat today, I know that weight would come off but could cause protein. So my question is, has anyone been over according to the chart and do they DQ because of this, or should he take a chance and run today even though it may cause protein and may have to repeat the urine portion? Which is the lesser of two evils?

My son was over the weight requirement because he is shorter but has a very muscular build. He passed dodmerb no problem. I believe they do a body fat assessment where they measure the waist and the neck if it's outside the range and come up with a ratio.Body fat needs to be under 22% for their age category I have been told.

Thank you! That's what I thought they would do, but non the less, he is drinking alot of water and not eating much today!

My son is 20lbs. over the weight limit (most of that is muscle...he's built like a tree trunk) and it's not a problem. He passes a tape test easily (although I'm not sure his unit even does them) and as long as your son can pass PFT, it's all good.

For USNA at least, height/weight is not a medical/DODMERB issue absent an underlying medical problem contributing to the situation. Rather, it is an admissions standard that USNA can waive at its discretion. That is often done if a BMI test is within limits.

I have to get my medical done next week and I was wondering if exercising before the medical really matters. I know they say not to exercise but I don't understand why. I like to stick to my workout schedule if possible.

You can still work out, but make sure you drink a lot of water. Their concern is your urine analysis. Flushing your body with a ton of water will help.

Typically most do not work out the day prior and drink only water that day to prevent any problem with the protein urine analysis. If you drink protein drinks, stay away from them for a few days.

He ended up weighing within the guideline for his Ht. He received his results after only 2 weeks! Medically qualified for both the USNA and USMMA.
So glad that is over with!
