Just got an invitation for the September 1st - 3rd or 15th - 17th. Will most likely be able to unattended due to Friday night football games. Does an invite mean anything significant, and is there any way to get to go to a different date after season? Also, did anyone else get this invite? Thanks!

Just ask admissions. DS didn't get invited at all and asked to attend and was given the date he wanted.

^sweet! Hopefully everything works out and I'll see you at one of the two sessions. Where are you traveling from?

Looks like someone on the academy's end has messed up, I just received that invitation as well although I attended one in October 2015. My brother also received an invitation and he's not in high school yet...
I think they sent that invitation to everyone on the academy's mailing list???? Looks like a major oopsie to me...

Nothing for DS, he got one in February for March's but wasn't able to attend. Did just go to NASS though

You could always ask for another date, but unless you are the star player at the state championship game, I am sure the coaches will understand the need to explore potential colleges.

Don't read too much into CVWs...just like those who attend NASS, many will not receive appointments.
In many respects, you can think of it as just another college visit.

Ask for another date. USNA usually works with you. Don't read into them. Go with and open mind and explore if this is really right for you. Tons and tons of threads about this on this forum.

I also was invited to CVW today... Would going to this weekend important for potential candidates like me if I have never visited Annapolis? Would it be important enough to miss a Friday night football game if I am not a key player or star of the team?

Only you can decide to miss a game or not. Many candidates will ask for a spring visit or another date do deconflict with sports. If you are torn on which SA to attend or questioning of its the right place for you, I think it's a great chance to see what USNA is about. Summer Seminar is not a full depiction of USNA life. On a CVW you will get to follow a Plebe around as they do daily life. Early fall visits mean new Plebes also. They still haven't figured USNA out yet. It's important while there to talk to other Mids of all classes to ask questions and get the full picture of USNA. A Sept visit means your Plebe is just over a month from Plebe Summer and still coming out of the fog and learning USNA in general. Upper class have a better view of life outside Plebe Year and how it starts to make sense after seeing the fleet during the summer.

My son was invited also for the September dates but is a football captain. He's decided not to play college football other than at an extremely selective D3 school who understands he is a student first and ball player second. He has a very limited number of games left and he loves to play football! He is asking to defer to November or will go in September if he can't defer. It's important for him to compare to SLE at West Point. Super exciting as my husband is Navy retired.

I too am a football captain and won't be playing collegiate. That is why I'm contemplating on going these sessions

Hopeful2021 - you boys are in the same boat. I'm leaving the decision up to him but encouraging him to look at all options. The football door is closing but the opportunities in life are just beginning.

I am not a key player or captain of my football team so I am definitely leaning towards going to this weekend. Major reason being I was not accepted to NASS and want to compare it to my time at West Point's SLE. And I don't want to change to another date during football playoffs or basketball season where I do have a major role on the team.

Anyone else's portal on Navy unable to be utilized? He has checked off and on today and keeps getting an error message.

Deciding to attend an SA is a big/life-changing decision. If you have never been to USNA, it is certainly work the time/effort to attend a CVW to get a better inside look at what you will be experiencing. No one goes to an SA to become a pro athlete, so it is important to have your priorities in order so you make the right choices about college and what you intend to do going forward.

DS got this invite last year. He was a football captain and on a team in the running for the district championship ( which they won). He asked for a reschedule to spring. He never heard back. He was offered his appointment in January anyway so we took him to Annapolis on spring break. Now he is a hard working Plebe.
