Ferry to Academy

Going to the Academy for a football game--does anyone know if there is transportation from the ferry over to the football field? Is it safe to walk--or are we crossing a highway/busy road? Any recommendations for a taxi?

Hi! The ferry terminal isn't too far from the Academy but I don't recommend walking it. You cross a couple of heavier trafficked roads and the area itself is not the greatest. While I've walked it a few times and never been threatened or attacked, I have been offered drugs and I know of classmates/former cadets that have been threatened. The train station is pretty close and there are usually a decent amount of taxis loitering between the ferry terminal and the train station. You could walk there with no problem, you just hang a left as you exit the terminal and walk down maybe 5-10 minutes and you're in the heart of downtown NL. I typically used Yellow Cab Company or Harry's Taxis as a cadet...I think a one way trip to CGA was maybe $7.00. They typically will let the taxi onbase during the day so it could take you right to the football field or to the Cadet Archways and then you can walk down. Uber is always an option too.

Uber is also very popular in the area and the cost to CGA is probably around 4 dollars. CAdets use it all the time.

Thanks--I didn't even think about UBER---great to know that is an option! We will definitely arrange for transportation from ferry!

I get the feeling Uber is an option nearly everywhere in the US now (bye bye Harry's Cab in New London).
