  • Dear Sir,

I have posted a thread on here and was directed to you. I am in a huge dilemna. Long story short I am an MSIII GRFD SMP scholarship. I am a nursing student but do not have nursing in my contract. My schedule for this next semester will not allow me to attend weekly MSIII class and I will also have to miss 3 ROTC mandatory labs possibly more. I have sat down with my PMS multiple times and we have talked about my options. He is pushing me to disenroll by just "walking away" from the program by not signing up for next semesters class. I don't want to go out like that and I want to know if there are any other options?!?! I can't miss clinicals or I fail the class, but I can't miss all of these ROTC events.
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

    Thank you

    Sincerely,

    Cadet Runyon
I would like your opinions on my chances of of receiving a 4 year scholarship and/or appointment to West Point.

I am 17 years old, a junior in highschool (homeschooled), I plan on taking courses at a community college my senior year. I haven't taken the SAT yet, but have done well on practice tests. I'm currently in the process of earning my Girl Scout Gold Award, 4-H member for 8 years, held leadership positions in clubs (president, vice president, secretary, ect). In Girl Scouts and 4-H, I've organinzed many service projects and mentored Brownies and Juniors. I ride horses competitively and have competed in quiz bowl contests, earning many first place ribbons.

    Thank you,

It's not inappropriate, but if it's a large school the enrollment officer might be a better point of contact. At the Golden Knight Battalion, we like it when the parents are engaged. It's good that your son has stayed engaged and shows the PMS that he is serious about the school. Your contact will reinforce that. I would tell you though, that the PMS probably won't be able to give you a definitive answer to your question about your son's chances, but it can't hurt to ask.

Hope that helps. Thanks for the questions.

    Hi Major,
My son has completed application for USMA and AROTC but I have a question for you. Is it appropriate for me (mom) to call PMS at his college choice school and find out how it looks for him earning a scholarship. His application was complete well before the October board. My son has been in touch with PMS via email but I have more questions (as a mom). Sorry to bother you if this is an insignificant question!
