    North Carolina Burr Nominations

When I went through the interview process the members of Sen Burr's interview panel indicated that I would hear back in "about a week, or so." In reality, I wasn't informed that I had received a nomination until nearly a month later.

Classes were not cancelled. Many companies had formations indoors during the storm. Other than athletics being cancelled, it was largely business as usual.

    Beast Recommended Items

This isn't something for Beast, but I was really glad for was an external hard drive with all of my files, pictures, and music on it. Of course I had to transfer all of the files onto it before R-Day, but my parents brought it up on A-Day. Definitely something to consider.

    Second Step Kit/Screening of Candidates

I know of someone who received an LOA dated July 21, so it would seem that the SLS candidates do get an early look.

Yes, wear your low quarters. Likewise, go ahead and wear glasses if you own contacts.

    Have I got this right?

He will have a "base pass" which he can use for almost any weekend of the first semester (for instance, Labor Day). If you live relatively close to West Point (travel time is the limiting factor) then he could potentially come home on pass.

    jake s, AKH, Casey, AbeastlyBeast..USMA 2015

AKH if you still need to know how to set up your chapel belt, PM me with your USMA email & I'll send you a PowerPoint with pictures of how to do it. I agree with my classmates: Beast was a challenge but still very do-able. It's all about your attitude and keeping the big picture in mind.

    Jake's goodbye

I'm leaving for USMA tomorrow, so this will be my last day for now. Thanks for all the help, tips, and advice I've gotten on these forums. This has been a terrific resource throughout the application & waiting process, and I look forward to being able to be a similar help to future candidates...

    Questions Thread

The R-Day packing list that I've received includes "Small desk fan, no bigger than 6” diameter" under the Recommended section. Is anyone going to bring one? I'm tempted, but if it's going to put a "target" on me I'll skip it.

    Issued Boots?

Does anyone know which boots we'll be issued on R-Day? I'd assume that it will be one of the 3 authorized pairs, and probably not the Bates M-8s because they're the most expensive. Any info?

    Running at SLS

Either one, though most people wore nice (not ragged) khaki shorts.

    Running at SLS

The CFA mile is a very flat stretch of paved road right next the Hudson. The only downside is that it is also next to a water treatment plant and the smell got to a lot of the candidates when we were running it. People were puking all over the place.

I haven't found the info booklet either. I'm assuming it hasn't been posted yet.

    Running at SLS

I can confirm what Mtnman said, we ran to & from the PT areas (maybe half a mile each way), and then there was a 2 mile run that I remember being *really* slow.

    Questions Thread

I'm a little confused about the Direct Deposit form. Do I mail the completed form in now, or carry it with me on R-Day? Also, the cover letter on the Third Admissible mailing mentioned a booklet called "Information for New Cadets and Parents, Class of 2015." It is supposed to be available on...
