    Lack of Drivers License

Don't worry about it. My roommate just graduated and didn't get her driver's license 'til March of this year. I also had a friend who got his 2 deg year. He had a Japanese license but no American one. You can just find rides with other people, not a big deal. You will have a military ID. I'm...

    Dates

July 31st. Aug 1-3 will be sort of dead days when you'll get your laptops, set them up, go to a few briefings...stuff like that. It will be more relaxed than BCT (no PT or yelling) but you still won't be a cadet, and you'll still have to be marched everywhere, can't do anything by yourself, etc.

    Service academy exchange

I went to Navy! :) eagle36 went Fall, I went Spring. Also HNeedle went to WP fall. He looooved it. ;) I think he's a little more sour about it than I, but it was definitely worth it. Just to experience the difference in cultures, but I made some amazing friends and had an absolute blast. hit...

    Sijan Cell Reception

Instead of switching services, you might see if he has a roaming only option on his phone... I have Sprint, which was excellent 4° year when I was in Sijan, not so great (I'm being kind) when I moved to Vandy. However, Sprint roams on Verizon, and Verizon gets terrific reception in Vandy. I...

    Investments for BCs/C4Cs

You can open a USAA account as soon as you're out of Basic, and you can use it for direct deposit. However, you cannot close your Armed Forces bank account until halfway through your sophomore year. In order to keep this account free, you need something like $200 sitting in it. Like the...

What to Bring as an Incoming Freshman...

If AT&T works everywhere, terrific. Else, Sprint works in Sijan and Verizon works in Vandy (but not vice versa) and T Mobile is terrible everywhere. :thumb:

    When the heat goes out...

poor vandy folks. heaters' are broken, you don't have chilled water fountains...what else? ;) my problem is my roommies keep setting our thermostat for 80 and i can't sleep cuz it's too hot. :D (i can't speak for long...i'm told i'm going to end up in mighty mach one.) not officially...tongue...

    Drum & Bugle Corps

D&B has auditions, but everyone makes it. Then you practice with them for a week or so and then either sign the contract or don't. I don't know about orchestra auditions. I'm thinking if you play an instrument with any kind of proficiency you can probably get on, but honestly I don't know.

    Drum & Bugle Corps

the woodwind section they have now is very good.

    Drum & Bugle Corps

They practice either once or twice a week...I know Sunday nights for sure. Their officer in charge is the former OIC for Catholic choir, so we do a couple of concerts with them a year (Christmas, then we have one coming up next month) in the Cadet Chapel, and I assume they do their own concerts...

    Drum & Bugle Corps

both my roommates are in d&b. they love the cadets, but nobody likes the director. nobody. you'll find it's mostly freshman because of this (although there are quite a few upperclassmen) it's a big commitment, but you do get to go on cool trips with the football team. but you have to go...

    HS graduation

mine did, and a lot of my friends' did theirs' at either graduation or an awards ceremony. our school didn't have a separate awards ceremony.

    AP tests

I definitely did the first page of compsci and then went to sleep. i also finished math early and went to sleep. that's weird they didn't let you. :(

    AP tests

Definitely take the Physics. I wouldn't bother with the Calculus...your placement in math depends on how well you do on the placement tests during Basic. Spanish also wouldn't get you anything here. Study if you aim to achieve fluency, but I'm not sure that AP test is worth it either. (More...

    Gift idea for appointee

Apparently, a couple of years ago, someone on our floor actually had a cat. they kept it in a carrier during the day and let it roam the building at night. They eventually got caught. :shake: poor cat.
