    Veteran Students

Occasionally comments are made suggesting that the Citadel is less of a SMC because it accepts veteran students. These students do not live in the barracks and are unfortunately only an extremely small number of the student body. Unfortunately, because these students bring tremendous value to...

    Citadel Questions

One caveat- The honors program is best suited (and perhaps only suited) for liberal arts majors. Double check to confirm, but the requirements of most STEM majors preclude taking additional classes in unrelated majors.

    Citadel Questions

There are approximately 25 full scholarships. These scholarships and at least some lesser scholarships are awarded to individuals who participate in the scholarship competition. Understand that DS competed several years ago, and there may have been changes. There were three opportunities to...

    Transfering into the Citadel

While DS is a rising senior, and does not regret his decision to attend; the decision is of course yours. I will share some anecdotal comments that I have received. One of our vehicles has a Citadel dummy license plate in the front plate holder. Over the years I have received a number of...

    Citadel Academic Scholarship?

DS had his competition several years ago. At that time they were given an essay topic that could take them in several different directions. They submitted the essay, and then in a small group setting the kids discussed their essays in a round table type format. There were several faculty...

    Citadel & ROTC Scholarship

Not every school is looking for the same type of students. Each program has its own needs and direction. So it makes sense that a student might receive funds from one college, but not another. Likewise, it is appropriate that a student select a school that he can afford. In this uncertain...

    Citadel Academic Scholarship?

This information is a couple of years old, but should still be reasonably accurate. There are approx. 25 full ride scholarships. These scholarships are awarded through an invited competition which occurs three times in during the school year. The scholarships are not divided up equally, so...

    Silver Shako stays in Charleston

I want to correct a previous post. DS is home for the holiday, and told me there is one individual on the team who is neither a cadet nor a graduate. This player is an active duty member participating in a degree program which will result in a commission.

    Silver Shako stays in Charleston

As a parent of a player, I will tell you that all members of the team are either Citadel cadets or graduates who are attending graduate school. If they are red shirted for a year, the NCAA allows for players to retain playing eligibility into a fifth year. But this is not really the issue...

    The Citadel Scholarship

The full academic scholarships are a great deal. In fact, they are better than athletic scholarships. DS went through this process a few years ago. While somethings may have changed, the process should be generally the same. I would suggest that you contact the admissions office and ask your...

    Citadel Honors Program?

DS was accepted to and participated in the honors program as a freshman. He dropped it as a sophomore. The honors program is geared toward non stem majors. Dr. Rhodes advised DS that it is almost impossible to graduate with honors since the engineering dept (DS's major) does not offer honors...

    Citadel Scholar Competition Questions

Adding to the earlier post, DS interviewed with two other candidates. The discussion was geared around the essay topic with the focus on each candidate's essay. The feedback ds later received was that the committee was looking for candidates who could consider other views and thoughtfully...

Just got invite to Citadel's scholarship competition, experiences?

As to preparation, DS had to write a short paper selecting one of three topics. During the competition there were small round table discussions, each round table had three scholarship competitors. The applicants discussed their papers and the other papers being presented with a panel watching...

Advice on going to The Citadel

If you are looking for information regarding what you can expect, you may want to contact the track coach and have him put you in contact with a member of the team. A track team member would probably be in the best position to advise you.

Just got invite to Citadel's scholarship competition, experiences?

DS attended the scholarship competition a couple of years back. In his year group they offered three competition dates. He attended the last one in March. One word of caution according to the information posted at the time, (this may have changed) scholarships were awarded as the board...

Pretty good football week for Military/Maritime Colleges

NC State walked all over The Citadel. The Citadel was never really in it. While not surprised NC State won, a more competitive game would have been nice.

Pretty good football week for Military/Maritime Colleges

The Citadel is off to a great start this year. 3-0, beating two top 10 teams. The football team is very happy and DS says they are looking forward to the rest of the season. Don't know how long it will last but for this week they are number 10 in the TPS poll and 14 in the FCS coaches poll.

Army ROTC scholarship AND track scholarship?

I can't speak for the AROTC side of it because DS only has experience with the Citadel side of scholarships. Using DS as an example. He has a full scholarship. Each semester the Citadel credits his account. As the semester progresses the school subtracts payments for various things. If his...

    CSI Citadel Question

Athletes can't attend the second session of CSI because they will arrive for their initial training while the second session is still going on. From what our DS said not all sports are present for the earlier arrival. He said only the sports that began team practice in the fall were arrived...
