Date required for plebes to return after Christmas

Since classes begin on the following Monday, January 6th, arriving back on Friday the 3rd sounds right. Not everyone is going to have the exact same report schedule - your MIDN should know when they need to be back. Better early than late:smile:

    Best Seafood Restaurant in Annapolis

I can vouch for Charthouse and the Severn Inn. I've been to both multiple times and never had a bad experience. Neither are cheap but worth the price. From the Marriott you can walk or water taxi to the Charthouse but would probably need to drive to the Severn Inn. As Spud said it's hard to beat...

    Admissions Board Process

An example of a late submission that probably triggered a re-examination and increase in WPS was my son’s ACT taken in late October or early November. He had previously submitted his SAT scores that while good were not top quartile. He decided to try the ACT and ended up with much higher scores...

    Sub Drafting

COmom, Aside from maintaining a high OOM and passing screeners some of the service selection process may involve being "selected" by the service especially in the smaller communities like Special Warfare. It pays to network as much as possible with people from those communities and take every...

    USNA Lacrosse Club

The Club team did not play this spring. I heard they broke some rules and were disbanded. I'm not sure what the status will be going forward.

    Gate 8

I am not sure of the exact address but the gate is on the corner of Route 450 (Baltimore Annapolis Blvd) and Bowyer Road.

    Plebe Parent Weekend

Pasadena is located between Annapolis and Baltimore so you are fine. I don’t know if they give the Plebes a mile radius anymore - it was 22, then I believe 30 and now just the tri-city area so pretty much anything within a 45 minuet non-rush hour drive is with-in range. I suspect he will be told...

    Security at USNA

I have driven on campus probably 30 to 40 times in the last two years. The three times I drove on in the last two weeks I had 4 MIDs in uniform one time, two MIDs not in uniform another time and the third time two family members and a MID. No IDs asked for other than mine. I enter thru gate 8...

    Security at USNA

I find it interesting that you have to present an ID when you walk onto campus but not if you are a passenger in a car. I have driven onto campus many times with a car full of people and never once has anyone other than myself (the driver) been asked for ID.

    Security at USNA

If you are the parent of a MIDN you will be issued or can request an ID card that allows you to drive onto campus most anytime- there are some exceptions. I believe sponsors can also get cards. It comes in handy when picking up or dropping off MIDs especially when they are moving stuff.

529 plan...we can get the money back...anyone done this

It sounds like you would have to trust him to send the money back to you:smile: Do you have another child to transfer the plan to? The funds might also be available for grad school down the road - not all pre-paid plans allow this though so you need to check with your particular plan.

529 plan...we can get the money back...anyone done this

proudmom17, It sounds like you have one of the prepaid tuition plans rather than the typical mutual fund 529 so they need verification of tuition payments. I believe USNA can provide an estimate of tuition expense. Somewhere in the mass of paperwork you'll receive (in the PTR?) is an...

    Seal Dive Watch

Check out the Garmin watches. I see more and more people using these. Various models have GPS, heart rate monitors, can track running time, distance, elevation and can record swim distance, efficiency, stroke count, pool lengths, etc. Pretty cool.

Then you understand that the best organizations have very strong diversity programs that focus on bringing together people of from all different backgrounds with different skill sets, different ideas and different ways of approaching problems - they consider it a competitive advantage rather...

    stats

First of all you quoted a sales pitch not the USNA mission statement. Second ANY large organization be it Google, GE, LMT, federal or state government or the military have many different types of jobs that require many different types of skills and many different types of people to fill them...

It's been awhile since I've looked at this board but I notice that some things have changed -old friends gone:smile: and new friends onboard - and some things never change – the questions that get asked each year for one. Any discussions of admissions eventually turns into a discussion of the...

    After Plebe Year

DS is in his second year at Annapolis and is enjoying the experience more. He has more free time, although it seems to be spent studying or working out, and doesn’t have to put up with some of the silly stuff they make Plebes do. They still don't get weekends off unless they have an overnight...

    Quick Question regarding CVW

Concur. DS was also invited to CVW in the spring of 2010 in the same letter denying acceptance to NASS. I heard from several sources at USNA information along the same lines - NASS was more marketing tool and CVW was used more to give competitive kids a little taste of the Academy.

    Military/Naval Academy Differences

DS selected the Operations Research major last year. It's out of the Math department - here is a link to the course matrix: http://www.usna.edu/MathDept/website/MathMajor.html The major is better known as Management Science or Decision Science.
