Interesting twist for Class of 2011

Was just told last night that anyone in the class of 2011 will be put in an odd situation if they are going for aviation or nuclear power options. Currently affecting only this class, they will graduate and commission but then they will have up to a year in inactive reserves. This time will...

    2010 Cortramid attendance reduced

She is NOT going. It was partially voluntary as she did want to take a couple of classes during the summer as well. With that in mind we really don't know how it would have turned out if she had pushed a little cause they only left two kids out and she is near the very top in both military...

    Current NROTC Scholarship Students

If we have any on here I wondered if you were aware yet if anyone in your unit is going to be taking any summer classes. I am hearing they are possibly cutting back on allowing them but no one I know of has gotten a firm answer one way or another. First CORTRAMID and now this......dang!

Who is still waiting for NROTC Scholarship?

What is the final date? I thought last year we were waiting for April 15th to know it had closed.

Is a commission as an officer GUARANTEED?

NROTC is actually increasing their active duty requirements for the incoming class. (Entering freshman Fall 2010 / graduating Class of 2014): Navy Option midshipmen (does not include Nurses or Marines) starting their freshman year of college in the Fall of 2010 or later will be required to...

    2010 Cortramid attendance reduced

Mine was told it would be a combination score including PT, military bearing, attitude, and academics. I also did not realize the "college option" folks were not eligible. Only the scholarship students are even considered. What galls me even more is I believe we know WHY (and who) the...

    2010 Cortramid attendance reduced

I agree. Very disheartening for the kids. I have heard that many schools will only allow around HALF of their freshman to go.

    Highly Competitive University v. USNA

Also, as stated in a post further down the board some of this years freshman (c/o '13) are being asked if some midshipman want to skip CORTRAMID to help save money. Budget cuts have reduced the amount of people that can go thru the program.

    Highly Competitive University v. USNA

Not sure if VMI may be different but as I am seeing and hearing the NROTC plan for the summer it does indeed include a four week period for East and an seperate one for West. The example of the East Coast CORTRAMID as explained to me consisted of: 1. One week at NS Norfolk with the...

    I just wonder.........

Talking to my daughter recently she commented that very few (if any) of the folks applying for in-school scholarships are having much luck and it seems to be due to budget cuts. (Gee, maybe the President spent it all). Anyway, I am wondering if with so many folks here with great records...

    Tax Documents

Additionally for those with children attending any of the academies be aware that in most cases you will lose the right to deduct that student as a dependant after his freshman year. Not the case with ROTC students.

    Tax Documents

The ROTC stipend is by its very nature non-taxable income and as such requires no reporting on tax documents. The only thing you should see would be a 1099-T which will show what the USG paid compared to what you are paying and you can then use that to claim Education Credits for the portion...

    2010 Cortramid attendance reduced

Further info makes it sound like they are looking for about 10% of the current midshipmen to skip Cortramid due to these new funding constraints.

    2010 Cortramid attendance reduced

Just heard yesterday that a number of slots for 2010 Cortramid were being cut due to USA funding constraints. Not sure of the numbers but the Navy is first looking for volunteers that might want to have the summer or attend summer school. Cortramid is the summer program for freshman where they...

    Funny misconceptions about ROTC

Goaliedad Funny you mention the boarding school story. My (current) ROTC daughter went in 10th grade to an elite boarding school/athletic academy and people had the same thoughts exactly. Furthermore, a few weeks ago she was being interviewed for her security clearance to attend CortraMid...

    Time Commitment

goaliedad - Best of luck to you and your daughter! Mine is adjusting and playing club. Since I had a son who played baseball at a Top 10 D1 program I was quite aware of all that goes on. In talking to the soccer coach I could almost see him struggle with the concept that since he was putting...

    Time Commitment

Agree that some programs are certainly NOT willing to work with the kids. My daughter was looking at the opportunity to play Division 1 soccer while doing NROTC and the unit was truly not willing to make much of any accomodations to help her do both.

Current ROTC - Mardi Gras Drill Meet

Tulane posted the 2009 results online last year but since they have not done so yet this year I am going to email them and see if it will be posted soon or might be available., Not arguing A&M did not win by any means but would like to see other results. Will post if I get a listing.
