Does a D deep six NROTC Scholarship

NDD--Just to clarify, per my DS' cadre, his Type 2 scholarship would have been cancelled without the waiver from national. Apparently, for AFROTC, the requirement for college gpa is at least 2.5 per semester, 2.5 overall, BUT also must not drop below 2.5 in spring for scholarships that are due...

Does a D deep six NROTC Scholarship

Proud Dad--my DS had the exact same issue, though with AFROTC. 3-yr scholarship slated to start this past semester. Started last year as freshman straight into Calc2 due to AP scores, and rec'd a D. (And USMCGrunt is spot on--had to retake class before moving to vector calc.) Other grades were...

    Conversion of Offer

Tkaler & psychedmom: Congratulations to you both! Last year, my DS accepted his Type 7 and then converted it to a Type 2 prior to the May deadline--though in his case, he had already been accepted to the universities in question and needed to make a decision regarding which he wanted to...

anyone applied for Project GO? Anyone rec'd a decision?

dunninla--I believe the deadline for applications is not until 3/15, so you still will have a bit of a wait. Good luck to you!

    AFROTC vs NROTC scholarship

++ to Nick's message, vareporter. My DS also received both AFROTC & NROTC scholarships. He originally thought he was Navy all the way, but did what Nick suggested and investigated both options thoroughly, talking with cadets & cadre at both detachments. He came to the realization that the Air...

    AFROTC scholarship acceptance deadline

FW Dad--thanks for that. I also posted the 30 day deadline, because that was my DS experience last year. I didn't think I had remembered wrong. My apologies to all I might have confused.

    Embry-Riddle AFROTC

Vareporter--if I am mistaken, my apologies. My recollection was that my DS had 30 days to accept, but I may be confusing his AFROTC with another offer he received. To be safe, you should contact the AFROTC HQ to be sure. But again--congratulations!

    Embry-Riddle AFROTC

Vareporter--my DS was also admitted to ERAU and was very impressed. While he chose to apply his AFROTC scholarship to another university, ERAU was a VERY close 2nd choice, as it is an excellent school. FYI, the ERAU AFROTC detachment was awarded the "Right of Line" award this year for "large"...

Should DS accept AFROTC scholarship before AFA or USNA results?

Vareporter, please also be aware that your DS only has 30 days to accept the ROTC scholarship, while the decisions on his academy applications may not be known for another month or more. So don't delay on the acceptance, and fingers crossed for the BFE. Congratulations to your son!!

In state tuition for NROTC, AFROTC, AROTC?

Also keep in mind that some universities also offer room & board scholarships to ROTC scholarship recipients. That has saved our DS a LOT of $$, and is just another piece of the puzzle as you consider all options.

    AFROTC scholarship application questions

First of all, kudos to you for your heart to serve! Secondly, your GPA is strong and the challenging course load is a very good thing. I am no expert--there are several others on this forum who are MUCH more knowledgable than me--but I would suggest retaking the SAT and also taking the ACT at...

How to better my chances with AFROTC

I agree with almost all of the great advice given above. One small comment: While it is always best to shoot for the highest possible ACT/SAT scores, do not be discouraged if you don't score at least 30 ACT or 1400 SAT thinking you will be out of the running for an AFROTC scholarship. My DS'...

    AFROTC Application - # Schools

Just a quick correction to NDD's post above. If you convert a Type 7 (4-year in-state tuition) to a Type 2 scholarship (3-year starting sophomore year, tuition capped @ $18,000), you can apply it to a university that charges more than $18,000/yr in tuition--but you pay the difference. Or, as in...

    My daughters scholarship process

Hathcoam--congrats on your daughter's efforts to pull up her GPA and her desire to serve her country. I'm assuming she's an up&coming senior, which gives her time to also work on improving her SAT and ACT scores. Both are a bit low in an extremely competitive scholarship arena. If you haven't...

    Quick AFROTC Question

NDD--Just to be clear, the type 7 pays tuition UP TO in state tuition, plus fees, monthly stipend and a book allowance. It does not pay everything--if books are more than the allotment, you will only be reimbursed for the AFROTC allotment. There may be some fees that the scholarship does not...

Checking status on the admissions portal?

We noticed that the website look has changed, but don't find the candidate portal. Is it still there and, if so, where?

    Waiting...???

My DS also received the VP letter & first misread it thinking it meant his file was being submitted for a VP nom. It actually stated that the USNA received confirmation from the VP's office that he had applied for the nom. Now the USNA has to determine who they might want to recommend for a VP...

    VP Nom Recommendation

Oops--never mind. Should always read the letter myself instead of relying on DS's interpretation. Nothing has been recommended to VP's office--DS just received the standard "we've been notified that you've requested a VP nomination" letter. Back to the standard wait & see, lol! (And DS needs to...

    VP Nom Recommendation

DS just received letter from USNA stating his packet has been sent to the Vice President's office. How does the VP nom work--does the VP nominate whomever the USNA recommends? Also, DS had already received noms from senator & US rep--is it safe to assume that this means USNA wants son to...

    SAT scores question

USNF--I misspoke. You are not dinged for omitted answers, just wrong ones. Here's a link that might help: http://www.studypoint.com/ed/sat-scoring/ The scoring is a combination of raw score converted to a scaled score. I think you can also get detailed scoring information directly from...
