    Tesla or EV auto anyone?

I can see the value in a secondary, round town car, but not as a primary car. 99% of my work is to /from work, Less than 18 miles per day. However, if I want to travel, I would never put up with having to hunt for a charger and then waiting patiently to charge up. When I travel, my average...

    NAPS Graduation Recognition

My recollection is that Admissons will send one of the nice plastic folders with USNA seal on it, with letter of acceptance and picture inside, just like they do with USNA appointments, directly to the Candidate. (It's been a few years since I had a NAPS acceptance). If you want to have it...

United States Naval Academy vs Brown BS/MD

Agree -- Unless you WANT (not just willing) to serve in whatever capacity USN/USMC deems appropriate, go to Brown. The Naval Academy primary purpose is developing Line Officers. Even if you are gifted, selection to the Navy Medical program is a long shot. As I tell my Candidates, don't attend...

    Vacation Thread

I'm gonna have to remember that one...who says that SAF isn't educational. A welcome respite from last weeks' ranting.

    Vacation Thread

My $.02 on Scotland, for what its worth -- 1) DON'T GO IN NOVEMBER ! It's cold and wet, and get's dark early. We visited for Thanksgiving about 10 year ago, DD was on overseas study at Edinburgh. It was a great visit, and I really learned why the Barbour jacket was developed and popular...

    ACT scores

Not necessarily. USNA does (or at least did when I went through initial BGO training) give more weight to the Math score. The explanation was that USNA is STEM school (even the "bull" majors get a Bachelor of Science degree, so math aptitude is more important. That said, the person who does...

    Plebe summer stretching/mobility

You will be scheduled with something virtually all of your waking hours...the level of activity varies, from PEP to class room sessions. Even the rare unscheduled time is filled with some activity or task. IMO , the mental exhaustion was far harder than the physical exertion. I tell my...

    Plebe Venting

    > Yep, sounds pretty normal to me. Very true...but they really do go or are forgotten after 39 years ! Sorry not going to get a lot of sympathy from old grads here !

USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

Competitive in that there are a limited number of slots, with many applicants. That said, the selection process is not necessarily based upon the same criteria as the Admissions criteria. USNA is trying to attract bright young candidates, who may or may not have a desire to attend USNA to NASS...

USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

I am curious,,,what about his "profile" did USNA not like ? Not going to debate any particular point (and this thread calls for speculation, so speculate away), but I've been involved in this process long enough to know that there is no one sitting in Admissions saying let's hold this one out...

USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

NOT AT ALL ... this has been addressed repeatedly on SAF. There are many successful applicants that didn't get into NASS.

Color Vision Waiver - Marine ground Question?

I thought I responded to this inquiry a couple days ago ? Was my response deleted ?

USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

I really hate to deal with absolutes (except of course "100% of those that don't apply don't get in," ) but an applicant should consider the TD the final answer for this year.

USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

A few more random responses- > This is actually more common than SAF may lead you to believe. Not everyone has all those things listed in the USNA Admissions Profile... Candidates have to make the best of the opportunities they have, and make sure that Admissions knows. (I will admit, I...

USNA Color Vision Waiver Agreement- Marine Ground?

YES ,,,,the form says specifically that Midshipman will accept a USMC commission if offered. Pretty clear. I would expect a Midshipman can be "ordered" to attend Leatherneck. Of course, I also suspect that one can sabotage the chances of getting a USMC commission --I trust that USMC really...

    Campus Tour

After Plebe Summer (1981) and Second Class summer , I swore I would never go back to the Annapolis/DC area in July ! I've only broken that rule for BGO training (>20 years ago) and a Classmates graduation in Norfolk. Gonna break it again this summer for grandaughter's first birthday !

USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

Just a few random thoughts as I read through these messages- > It's not just about stats. USNA 's objective isn't necessarily the selection of the highest SAT/Grades/HS performance.. they are looking for the secret sauce that makes a good leader. No one knows what that special sauce is, but...

USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

Based upon the Appointment List, SAF represents roughly 10% of the applicants. I don't believe that participation in SAF means an applicant is more "proactive", cares more or less, or has any better or worse chance, than the person who simply follows the guidance on the USNA.edu website...

USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

Correction..none are reported on SAF. SAF Is not the whole picture. SAF is a good sampling, but the number of Candidates who have not heard one way or another at this point is small, and getting smaller. BGO Area Coordinators have no role in the process , and certainly aren't pressuring...
