    Northwestern Preparatory C/O 2020

Most of the students who attend NWP are recipients of a Falcon Foundation scholarship. These students are considered qualified, but not competitive for USAFA. Here's a look at FF stats https://www.falconfoundation.org/Performance I believe USNA has a similar program for students through their...

Hi there! My DD was in the exact same position 8 years ago! She accepted the FF scholarship, attended NWP and had a very successful time at USAFA. She graduated in 2017, earned her pilot's wings in 2018, and is now an instructor pilot. It's such an exciting time and it's always fun to read...

    Falcon Scholarship

From the Falcon Foundation website: Young people are automatically eligible for a Falcon Scholarship by first applying to USAFA. The USAFA Office of Admissions then identifies potential recipients of the Falcon Foundation scholarship from a pool of direct entry applicants who are qualified, but...

Longer service obligation for SA grads under review

Almost all schools are actively working to increase diversity on their campuses. In addition, students who attend a SA must meet many additional requirements that students attending other schools do not have to consider when applying to school. I’m not saying that all students who attend a SA...

Becoming a doctor after the academy

Still the exception as with the “Doogie Howser” six year undergrad/med school programs/ My DH actually did premed and med school in 5 years :) Had his PhD by the time he was 28. Overachiever!

Becoming a doctor after the academy

Medical school is four years, not three. I actually know very few direct commission doctors. I know some who went ROTC and were accepted to medical school, some who went directly out of West Point, a bunch who went to medical school after 1+ tours. I even know a few who were WOs first. If...

    Gifts for the SA kid?

What you originally posted is important as it shows your state of mind and how you approach cadets, parents, and ultimately those who serve to protect and defend our nation. Thanks!

    Gifts for the SA kid?

Maplerock, This was not your original response, was it?

    Gifts for the SA kid?

Maplerock, I forget which SA you attended. Could you describe, specifically, how you believe the experience has changed to diminish and make less impressive the "warrior" label? Thanks!

    Air tickets for Thanksgiving break

I would agree with you about the return trip on Sunday as that is the same for all cadets (except the firsties?). However, when they can leave is dependent on their academic schedule and even their squadron, in some cases. I believe someone else mentioned Southwest as a good option for...

    Air tickets for Thanksgiving break

Unless there has been a recent change, cadets can travel home for the Thanksgiving holiday. As always, current cadets will be the best source of information for this. I would suggest waiting until after the start of the academic year before making reservations. Your cadet will then have...

    Utter Frustration with myself

This is such solid advice! Understanding why you missed a question and learning from your mistakes is where true learning occurs :) Good luck!

Proactive testing for allergy to a medicine as a baby?

Antibiotic allergies are not inherited. Amoxicillin is a narrow spectrum antibiotic that is useful in treating many childhood bacterial infections. I hate to have to prescribe something else when the first antibiotic of choice is amoxicillin. Here is a link from the American Academy of...

Proactive testing for allergy to a medicine as a baby?

The majority of children who have an allergic reaction to an antibiotic will outgrow it. I always recommend that the children I see in clinic see an allergist to confirm or rule out the allergy. Even if your child does not attend a SA, I would see an allergist.

Trump Bans Transgender Americans from Service

Thank you for the explanation. Can an applicant receive a waiver while receiving current treatment for depression or ADHD?

Trump Bans Transgender Americans from Service

Would a waiver be granted if the individual was diagnosed with depression and received treatment with an SSRI prior to joining the Army? Please don't interpret this as an endorsement of the recent announcement. I am only asking to understand the process more completely.

    School walkout

This!!! Please, if nothing else, think about this! Due process is such an important right as individuals. Seriously. About the only "common sense" regulations are Gun Violence Restraining Orders, which are good in theory, but usually make a mockery of Constitutional due process requirements.

    Peanut Allergy DQ?!

Have you been retested to confirm that you still have the allergy? In some individuals allergies will resolve. Good luck.
