    Physical Preparation for BCT

I would suggest you practice flutter kicks because it's incredibly likely you will be doing a ton of them.

Airman First Class (E-3) is the most typical rank you'll see. A few are Senior Airman (E-4).

    USAFA HELP heath

POC-ERP is for people who are within 2 years of a degree. SOAR (Scholarships For Outstanding Airman) is the best for young airmen with few college credits. It is also the best ROTC program for prior enlisted people. ASCP is skewed in favor of technical majors, especially engineers. If...

    Leaders Encouraging Airmen Development

I'm surprised you missed my post about this. It was on the page right before this one. The board WILL NOT take any direct entry prior enlisted applications for class of 2016. If you are a prior and you were not in the prep school class of 2012, you WILL NOT be going to the academy for class of...

    Leaders Encouraging Airmen Development

By default you're signing for direct entry. The prep school is just an additional check box you can sign on. There is no applying only to the prep school.

    Leaders Encouraging Airmen Development

Covered this in another thread but I'll repost here for those who didn't see it. That said, I know of two people who still didn't get appointments at the prep school. They announced the last batch a few minutes ago. There may be more but I don't know everyone who didn't get one.

Don't buy a laptop for the prep school. You'll be loaned one when you need it. If you do have one, they store it in the academic building. It's right across from A squad. There's a ton of free time at the prep school. I've managed to watch two 26 episode TV series over the course of 2-3 days...

Made up my mind too late?

Considering I never planned on going to the academy till the age of 21 and I still got in, it's never too late to keep trying. I guarantee you my application was far worse than yours too.

Marijuana Use Question for Larry Mullen

By the time a kid is 17-18 years old, they should have a full understanding of any medical issues they have. If you got diagnosed with ADD when you were 4, but it's been so inconsequential in your life that you don't even remember anything about it at age 17-18, then don't put it down. I know a...

Marijuana Use Question for Larry Mullen

My opinion on the matter: He's screwed, mainly because he lied to admissions and he told you. If he's told anyone else with loose lips, it may come back to bite him in the butt later. He's already proven that fact that he can't even keep his own mouth shut because he told you in the first place...

    Air Force Reserve: Good idea?

A Pilot/Nav/ABM doing the same things as you would still make far more. I was an aviator too. I know about this stuff. When I was going TDY to Greece, yeah, I was going to get $162 per diem, but so were all of the other officers on the crew and their flight pay, BAH, and other entitlements blew...

    Air Force Reserve: Good idea?

This is absolutely not possible. No amount of entitlements would put you anywhere near an O-2 or O-3 pay grade. O-2s would have somewhere between $60-70,000 annually and O-3 would have $80-90,000 annually. The only enlisted entitlements that are higher than an officer's is BAS and the measly...

    Air Force Reserve: Good idea?

You should never enlist with the goal of commissioning in mind. Once you enlist, you're at the whim of your commander for any commissioning source you try to apply for. If they don't want to let you go, or they're a real jerk, guess who's not getting their OTS/ROTC/LEAD applications signed off...

    Air Force Reserve: Good idea?

If you're thinking of enlisting over commissioning first, then I hope you have some dire circumstances that require you to need the military benefits now or you're just looking to pocket the GI Bill and scram after 4 years. Commissioning should always be the first thing you look into if...

    Air Force Reserve: Good idea?

If you want decreased chances of deployment, join a career field that barely deploys. That's your only guarantee. That situation only happened at my base because the AD component was there as well to pick up their slack and somehow they found ways to throw the lion's share of the work on us.

    Air Force Reserve: Good idea?

Never said it was any kind of absolute power, but compared to Active and Reserve's nothing, a little something is a lot better. I was at a guard base before that had active duty squadrons sharing. We got tasked to deploy five crews. The two AD squadrons have to fork over two crews each, and...

    Air Force Reserve: Good idea?

Guard answers to their state, not the federal government. This means you have more leeway in not getting forced into doing a bunch of things you don't want to do. Guard is also far more relaxed than Reserves for the same reason as above. The simplest way to put it is Guard has more bargaining...

    Air Force Reserve: Good idea?

Guard is way better than Reserves. Also, depending on how old you are and what job you get, you may just end up stuck in training too long and you'll miss your opportunity to apply.

Official USAFA Class of 2016 Appointment thread

The board is not allowing any direct entry of priors for Class of 2016. All priors will go to the prep school this year. My AMT brought the word down to me after one of the board meetings. He was pretty upset about the decision.
