    DS Declined His Appointment

I am sure that was extremely tough decision, for both the candidate and his parents! If he followed his heart, and it sounds like he did, he will do well and be of great service to his nation. You must be very proud! Best of luck! :thumb:

    SLE Acceptance

When DD attended SLE last June, the officer who spoke at the closing ceremonies noted that, statistically, 40% of those in attendance would be at R-Day the following year. It stands to reason then, that a higher percentage than that are offered appointments. It's not because SLE gives them a...

    NY 61 USMA portal updates

Jackiejyp7, were you able to reach Sen Schumer's office? DD's FFR did not have any answers, just said that it was all good. It does appear that the senator put forth the names of least three candidates on two separate slates. I'm just so curious about the disparity between the info on his...

    NY 61 USMA portal updates

Buff81, thank you for your response. That is very interesting. It still seems odd to me, though, because this senator's application packet made such a point of noting that candidates could only apply to 1 academy (through him), that they must report any other nominations rec'd, and that if...

    NY 61 USMA portal updates

Honestly, I don't know the answer, but I suspect the double entry is a technical error. I don't think you can have 2 noms from the same source, at least not to the same academy. Maybe it should be a question to the FFR?

    NY 61 USMA portal updates

Congratulations, Jackie! My DD has the same situation-already had other nom and an appointment, then Sen Schumer's nomination appeared 2 x's on the portal and the letter came in the mail. Very strange, especially after she notified his office-as he requested-about her other nominations, but...

    When to do the following?

So much to consider! Wow, I didn't realize this was such a hot topic! When DD first began to look at schools and learn about AROTC, a PMS at a school she did not end up applying to told her very definitively that if one is fortunate enough to receive both a scholarship and an appointment, she...

    Principal Nomination + 3Q

Yes. My DD rec'd her appointment with no LOA, no LOE, no sports recruitment. She was not alone. Check out the appointment threads to see stats from those who posted.

    Doesn't even make sense...

There are such great people here - so much wisdom and perspective! There is every reason to stay positive and more importantly, to get back up after being knocked down. It can be a blessing, really. The longer one goes without hitting a wall, the more it hurts when he finally does-and he...

    One family,Two sacrifices

My father was a WWII veteran. My mother was a teenager during WWII, with both of her older brothers in the Army along with virtually every male of age that she knew. She never took for granted that both of her brothers came home because she knew so many families whose sons and brothers did...
