    QNS Letters

My DS got his today......... he read it with his head held high. His SA opportunities for this year are now closed and final. He's previously accepted a 4 yr. AROTC scholarship to VA Tech for Engineering and I'm sure he'll be successful in the Corps of Cadets. Not sure if he'll try to...

    Varsity sports walk-ons

I usually shot in the high 70s - barely good enough for the coach not to dismiss me out of hand. It is humbling though - I played with a cadet one day who shot a 68 without breaking a sweat.

    Varsity sports walk-ons

No, they are not always removed. In fact, they normally are not. I had two things not in my favor: 1) I was not recruited, 2) I wasn't really that good - I was in no danger of becoming one of the top five. There is lots of help available to cadets and coaches encourage them to seek it...

    Varsity sports walk-ons

I saw this a while ago and thought I would come back to it as I did both - walked on and then participated in a club sport. Sometime during Beast - not sure exactly when - the New Cadets would do sports/PT in the afternoons, but the recruited Corps Squad athletes would go off and participate...

I'm fairly certain when you see "61" or "62" - it stands for Junior and Senior Senators from the state.

USMA Class of 2017 Acceptance Thread

Don't worry. "Goin the ROTC route" makes your DS no less qualified to be an Army officer. My son has his TWE from USNA and is awaiting the same from USMA, most likely. Yes, they will be disappointed, but they will dust themselves off and excel anyway. I was a P-nom from my congressional...

    USNA 2017 Mailbox Stalkers Club

My son got his today. He had only a Presidential nom. He seemed to appreciate that USNA didn't keep him in suspense - now he can focus on his other schools.

Value of SA education after 5-20 years in service?

FWIW: You lose the skills you don't use. I graduated with a Mech Eng degree and passed my EIT at USMA. I then branched infantry and spent 8 years jumping out of airplanes and getting tossed around in a Bradley Fighting Vehicle. I would never have dreamed of selling myself as a "mechanical...

    Sequestration 5 cuts

They both have decent mix of civilian and military. Sequester won't affect military personnel. Having said that, could there be an impact? Sure. But prioritization is everything. If they need to press on SA and ROTC, they can and other things will slide. We have had too many...

    Sequestration 5 cuts

There will be some pain felt due to sequestration, but it won't be as bad as the apocalypse so many our of public officials are squealing about. For the most part, government agencies have been quietly planning for sequestration all year and have eaten a significant chunk of its effects...

thought provoking article I came across

    1. Bruno makes great points on traditions. 2 No, going ROTC in no way makes you less an officer. In my 20 years of service, I worked for lots of officers. ROTC vs USMA made no difference whatsoever. All Army officers, once commissioned, go off to their respective Basic Courses where the...

    Chances at NROTC/AROTC scholarship

Did you have your file complete on time to hit all the boards for AROTC? Your stats are highly impressive. Why did you not include one of the SMCs?

USMA Class of 2017 Acceptance Thread

No idea how this year compares to others. My 1400 SAT, 3.7 GPA (top 20% of his class), Boy's State, Eagle Scout (SPL), AP Scholar Award (for all 3, 4, and 5's on his numerous AP exams), X-country/Track varsity letters, good CFA, medically qualified son contacted his RC a few weeks ago and...
