    NROTC College Program classes

College program Navy MIDN are not required to take calculus or physics. If they pick up scholarship, they have to but if they get advanced standing they do not. That being said, of those in my unit who did not pick up advanced standing or scholarship and were forced out before their junior year...

    NROTC Orientation

Your peers won't give you a hard time over missing a portion of NSO. It will be up to you to cover the material that you missed while at your school orientation but keep in mind NSO is a very small portion of your training. You will learn far more in the first month as a MIDN than in the 2 days...

Controversy of Cadet Group Photo -- Reactions from West Pointers?

What should be agreed upon by all parties is that following graduation these Cadets will go on to serve the nation, guided by THE General's"three hallowed words", and preserve the right for civilians to engage in such activity as appropriate. Whether the controversial picture is politically...

    Double Major and ROTC??

I am a double major; it can be done and will be much more feasible if You bring in a lot of AP/ Dual Enrollment Credit that your university will accept and apply towards your degree The two majors share a similar core curriculum (very easy to find out by looking at university's catalog...

Foolish to defer AFROTC scholarship for NROTC college option?

Navy will be awarding more sideload scholarships and Advanced Standing contracts to those who have completed some time in NROTC and fewer 4 year scholarships to high school students in the near future. Your chances of getting picked up for an NROTC program, especially considering you were...

When does summer training start for NROTC

I must respectfully disagree. Members of my class who picked up the 4 year scholarship did not attend summer training this year with the rest of my classmates that were on scholarship out of high school. Their training starts after their sophomore year with the option of 2/C cruise or CORTRAMID...

    VMI to Coast Guard

I am not, nor do I want to be, knowledgeable of your financial situation but I must add that VMI without an ROTC scholarship or other serious financial aid would be a very costly option compared to USCGA. Seeing as how the USCGA's sole mission is to commission officers for the Coast Guard...

Is it worth losing 2 years?(College question)

In the grand scheme of things 2 years really isn't that much time. I'd say apply for all the programs you are considering, and are eligible for, and keep on charging for USNA if that is your dream. Like you said, there are many ways to earn your commission and there is no "holier" choice, but if...

    NROTC Summer Training vs. Internships

Having just returned from my 3/C cruise I can tell you it shouldn't be a major issue. CORTRAMID is a month long evolution, leaving you with a long two and a half months of summer to do what you please. I'm sure you would have to discuss any specifics such as scheduling conflicts with your intern...

    NROTC Essay?

+1 to Spud; there are some who would be more than happy to copy your essay from this posting and use it in their own application. Be careful putting your own work out freely on the internet; although not secret, sensitive information, seeing an applicant's essay on a forum for all to see brings...

    Letters of Recommendation

I chose people that I felt knew me best. Accordingly, I asked the junior of my two JROTC instructors to write my letter instead of my senior instructor. I don't think an ROTC board would read into a letter coming from an assistant coach vice the head coach too much because they require these...

    Immediate Scholarship Reservation

No it is not too late, but I strongly advise against even mentioning the acronym "ISR" to a recruiter unless they have mentioned it to you first.

    Immediate Scholarship Reservation

+1; my NRD CO noted that an appointment could replace an ISR. I was offered the contract only after I assured him the NROTC program was my top choice.

    Immediate Scholarship Reservation

I had to sign some paperwork regarding drug use and the other supplemental forms alone. My parents were called in to sign the ISR contract at the second interview; I am not sure what you both signed so if you are more comfortable PM'ing me go ahead.

Will I be able to qualify for the medical part of AFJROTC?

+1; JROTC cadets do not go through a medical examination. Military schools may differ, but as I attended a civilian, public HS I would not know about their policies.

    Immediate Scholarship Reservation

The applicant's recruiter/ scholarship coordinator. You do not ask for an ISR; if awarded, you will sign a "binding" contract in the presence of the NRD CO and your parents.

    Immediate Scholarship Reservation

The ISR is a tool used by NRD's to essentially pocket a scholarship for highly qualified applicants. When I ISR'd I was told that when my package was sent off to Pensacola the national board would see a stamp of approval from the CO of the NRD telling them to award the scholarship. So in essence...

    Major Second Thoughts

I think the 4+ years the OP is referring to is the extension engineering majors may elect to take so that they are not overwhelmed alongside ROTC requirements. I know the VTCC has a 5 year program like this for its cadets as does NROTC; I would assume AROTC would do the same.

    NROTC Tiers and Double Majors

Quick question! If an NROTC Mid were to carry a significant amount of AP credit (not exceeding the limit of 30 for the 4 year scholarship) and were studying a Tier 2 Major, they could ideally complete a double major if the numbers work out, which is my case; it is completely feasible in 4 years...
