Attending a service academy won't ruin your life, but living in regret of the "what ifs" will haunt you. If you decide it's not for you don't sign the 2 for 7. However, I think you'll be living your dream...don't let it pass you by.
All the best in your decision. Keep us in the loop on what...
prj888, my DS is finishing up his 4C year at USD. He absolutely loves the unit/school/professors so much he decided against reapplying to USNA. USD supports the unit by offering room and board; details are in the FAQ's on USD's NROTC unit webpage.
One of the perks of being in SD is having...
My DS had two concussions, one his freshman year, the next his sophomore year. FF and sure enough he was DQ'ed pending the results of a remedial.
In anticipation of dodmerb we took him to a neuropsych doc who put him through a series of cognitive tests (takes about 3-4 hours) to have him...
DS attended CVW Spring of 2014 (now attending NROTC.) There was another CVW candidate who wore his jrotc uniform and was ridiculed on social media. Don't be the guy who wears his HS letterman jacket, seal pins/shirts etc. Wear nondescript clothing, bring your host homemade treats, have fun and...
(Nov. 2014) After receiving a 4-yr at DS 1st choice school, my son went in for an informal Q&A meeting with the freshman LT (before university acceptance letters came out.) At the end of the meeting the LT advised him if he was placed on a wait list to contact him and he'd talk with admissions...
This could be my DS, c/o 2019. DS was adamant he was going to reapply to the c/o 2020 however, after a couple of months at NROTC he decided he wasn't going to pursue USNA because he liked his unit, the location and university. He is doing very well and thriving in all areas and we couldn't be...
PLNC is a beautiful campus and my alma mater.
DS is starting his second semester at USD and is enjoying everything about the unit, campus and his friends.
Your DS will enjoy SD and PL. If you have any questions I'll try and answer them.
All the best to your DS, he'll enjoy SD and the unit.
1. Bring your host (and their roommates) homemade cookies
2. Wear nondescript clothing.
3. Ask questions
4. Be humble
5. Have fun
6. Did I mention to wear nondescript clothing i.e. High school, jrotc, no SEAL tridents etc.
DS contacted his school. After they verified he was NROTC they told him not to worry, navy will take care of it, and to ignore any letters stating otherwise.
Thank you, NavyHoops! I'll have DS look at the website and let him know to speak up if the boots don't fit.
It would make sense that units use the measurement chart as a guideline knowing they may have to tweak orders.
Unfortunately, going to his unit to get fitted wasn't an option.
The email stated for them to complete the measurement questionnaire and email it back. They'll be issued their uniforms based on the information provided.
DS went to a tailor for measurements, but isn't sure on boot size. So...
DS received his uniform questionnaire in regards to measurements. The one item he's unsure about is boot size. We only have one military surplus stores where we live and they didn't have what he needed to try on. Anyway, DS wears a size 14 running shoe; would he request a size 14 boot?
Any...
