    Post ROTC Careers

You can't branch civil affairs as a LT out of ROTC, it only becomes an option when you become a captain. Likewise to do JAG you will have to do a education delay and go to law school first. I was a poli sic major and honestly nothing you branch will use what you're studying except the writing...

Army vs Airforce (officer rotc path)

I'm an Army Officer who did two years as an AFROTC cadet before switching over to AROTC so I have a lot of LT friends in both services but I'll speak to Army: PROs: Army employs more junior level leadership, as a LT you will immediately be in charge of a Platoon verses the AF where for most of...

    ROTC Vs OCS

To go OCS (unless you are already active duty) you have to enlist in the army with a 09S contract. You go through basic training as a specialist and go to OCS the day after you graduate. If at any point you fail OCS you revert back to a specialist and have to serve out the remaining three years...

Army Guys -- OCS Mailing Ettiquette?

Its 'Candidate Last Name, First Name' but if you just put his name on there he won't get in trouble, they don't do the push-ups for mail thing at OCS. I wouldn't even bother writing him honestly. Phones aren't taken away at OCS so they just store them in their rooms and check them every night...

    AROTC "Compressed" Schedule

You cannot do CTLT or CULP after commissioning as these are cadet programs and you will be a 2nd LT. I would try for one of those sophomore summer after ldac. Also make sure you know the timeline for requesting ED delay, one of the cdts I commissioned with missed the application date and could...

    Need help regarding LTC

I did the two year AROTC program after switching from AFROTC without doing LTC and still got AD and my first branch choice. Id you have a high GPA (like 3.4 or above) a good PT score, and put 100% effort into rotc you should be fine. Ask your cadre if you can do LDAC after your senior year...

    Boots

Blackhawks are amazing! I'm female and realized that the whole female with weak ankles thing applied to me after my first FTX where I almost broke my ankles a multiple times. Someone told me it helps to have better ankle support in the boots so I ditched the issued boots, got a pair of...

    AD SSG applying for ROTC

Out of OCS there is an option to put in a package for a branch based on pervious army experience. From recent classes most of the prior enlisted who put in packages to stay in the same branch go it. Also Field Artillery is not a competitive branch right now so if you do reasonable while at OCS...

    Non-EA Stats

I apologize I realize that was bad wording in this topic of conversation. I did not mean to imply not getting a EA was due to poor performance only that if a cadet was given bad leadership evaluations in AFROTC then that does not necessarily mean he/she will receive bad evaluations in army rotc.

    Non-EA Stats

I think one thing to keep in mind during this whole discussion is that the number of cadets in a given MS class changes dramatically from the beginning on freshman year to the day you leave for LDAC. Of the class I commissioned with they started day one of freshman year with about 30 Cadets, by...

    CULP attire

All cadets flying to and from summer training have to go in civilians, when I went a good 70% were told to wear their detachment's polo shirts or tshirt and khakis with tennis shoes (because he might have to do a lot of walking/lifting of bags when he gets there). I wore my battalion's tshirt...

    AFROTC EA due date

I don't want to hijack this thread and I know I'm going to get called out on something in this responses because ever afrotc and arotc unit and for that matter ever military unit is very different in terms of its culture and what they look for in leaders. What I saw in afrotc is that the Air...

    AFROTC EA due date

Sorry I was having a senior moment, I switched over to AROTC the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year and was an end of camp commissionee summer of 2013. They would have let me enter as an MS3 (AS300) cadet because I had previous AFROTC time, however if any cadets are thinking of making the...

    AFROTC EA due date

This is somewhat off topic but I just wanted to post a little bit of encouragement for those reading this who were not selected for FT. I was a Non-select back in 2012 and at the time I though not getting selected was the end of the world and my dream of being an officer. However remember there...

    Pay and BOLC questions

Its actually 36 months. This is because BOLC is a promotion requirement for 1LT and if you don't meet all the promotion requirements in 36 months you get separated. However 36 months is pushing it and in reality most units will try to get you there by the two year mark. I'm AG and although...

    Platoon Leader Website

I stand corrected, according to AR 600-8-29, "If the officer’s source of commission is the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC), active duty service commences on the year, month, and day the officer enters active duty based on the computation of travel per the Joint Federal Travel Regulation...

    Platoon Leader Website

This is only if you are Reserve/NG. If you are active duty you will have to wait until you arrive at your BOLC to get a CAC. I know some people will chime in that they got one before BOLC, so it is possible to slip through the cracks, but the official policy is you have to wait until the first...

    Platoon Leader Website

I commissioned over the summer so I'm a 2LT. But your ROO is correct you won't get a CAC card until you report to BOLC if your active duty or until the day you commission if you are NG or Reserves. That is unless you go to CULP or some other army summer training besides LDAC/LTC. To clarify I...

    Platoon Leader Website

You just need a .mil email address and you can join, I joined it as a cadet, a lot of great resources there. However I think you need a CAC card to log into milsuite now, someone correct me if I'm wrong, so you might need to use a CAC card reader to do this.
