    CAC card

My first CAC card picture was me in a button up shirt. I know several people who wore American flag t-shirt. As long as the clothing is in good taste you're fine.

    AFROTC 2018 Rated Boards

While it is frustrating to see cadre mess up and your son has to pay the price there is unfortunately nothing the Air Force can do more than putting him in the alternate list. My best friend who convinced me to join and stay in AFROTC didn't get an EA since my cadre mistakenly put his...

    Crosstraining!

The justification is that the board requires an OPR which won't happen until one year after your training. I think that he had all of the qualifications to go to UPT but just didn't get it in his commissioning source. His command caught wind that UPT needs bodies and selected him. Always heard...

    Crosstraining!

That is true but what the Air Force is doing to alleviate the shortage in staff pilots is increasing production. The rate of people leaving is way higher than what the Air Force wants. Headquarters is trying to solve QOL problems but if you were given an opportunity for a six figure flying job...

    Crosstraining!

To put more detail on the RPA situation the backlog is so bad that they have cancelled at least one RPA class for this year. The simulators the RPA students have been using are using new maintenance contractors and apparently they cannot fix them as well as the previous contractors. Meanwhile...

Gap between commissioning and reporting for duty (AFROTC)

Fair enough on the ethical questioning. I personally jumped internship to internship waiting for EAD to come. Knowing that my EAD was a year after my commissioning I wanted to make my year useful in making professional experiences. I didn't say much about my military service during the interview...

Gap between commissioning and reporting for duty (AFROTC)

Companies typically don't do that since they know after graduating people want a full time career oriented position. What I meant was to apply for a job you want to with the "intention" throughout the hiring process of staying there for a couple years only to state your true intentions after you...

Gap between commissioning and reporting for duty (AFROTC)

So AFPC likes to spread out ROTC commissionees since Academy LTs are immediately in active duty following their graduation. Academy LTs normally report to their first base 60 days following graduation (They have 60 days of paid leave they would use for vacation following graduation). You will...

PPL yes or no for FT

I think it is a great experience and gives you time away from the boring ole' UPT bases. You get free meals on the weekdays and get to drive up to Colorado Springs/Denver on the weekends. All you do is worry about flying. I will say the instructors are kinda in the mix of good and terrible. Some...

NROTC Villanova vs U of Maryland: any recommendations of one over the other?

Villanova NROTC unit has been around for quite a long time while University of Maryland's has it's own unit for just a couple of years. Also, UMD's cadre is shared with UMBC's NROTC unit so one does not have weekly availability to see the cadre at Maryland. I would say UMD's commander is...

    AFROTC pilot slots

Current production can produce 1200 pilots. If we are at maximum production all four bases can produce a total of 1600 pilots. An extra base can produce the 2000 the Air Force wants in the end but they'll need to bring more IPs which the MWS community cannot provide enough.

    AFROTC pilot slots

This is from listening from the 19th AF Commander that came to each UPT base during the T-6 pause. He actually wants to open up a new T-6/T-38 only UPT base that would be all contractor IPs much like IFT. A quick solution is to cut parts of the T-6 and T-38 syllabus to speed up the timeline. T-1...

    AFROTC pilot slots

Air Force UPT is going to expand in the foreseeable future. Currently we're at producing ~1100 and we're intending to increase to nearly 2000 in the near future. If you want to be a pilot and have the academics/health to do so expect to be a pilot! In today's environment I suggest majoring in...

    Trouble picking a major (AFROTC)

I would suggest freshman year to take a couple classes in different majors. Take introduction to business or introduction to geography because most people in those classes are new and willing to talk to strangers. Also to join a couple clubs/academic frats that are not engineering. For any...

    Trouble picking a major (AFROTC)

Six years ago as a freshman I chose Mechanical Engineering as I thought that's what the Air Force wanted and back then it was one of the few majors they would offer a scholarship. I struggled through the major barely making a 2.5 GPA. No scholarship was offered and I worried every final whether...

    Space Available

You need to have a form signed by your ROTC commander approving your ability to use Space A travel. You would be on CAT 6 for Space A which is the lowest category. No OCONUS travel allowed. Biggest thing is that Space A is unpredictable and you need a lot of flexibility which includes time and...

AFROTC Commissioning 2LT to AF or Reserve?

When one is in between commissioning and EAD they are in the Air Force Reserves. In fact, when one contracts in AFROTC they actually contract into the Air Force Reserves. Nothing unusual. He will "transfer" to Active Duty Air Force once he inprocesses into his first assignment. It's more of an...

    AFROTC Stipend Question

For your freshman and sophomore year stipend stops during the summer. During your junior year you get stipend over the summer but your senior year expect stipend to stop a month before graduation/commissioning.

    2017 AFROTC LEAD Info

You are absolutely going to be doing something the moment you wake up to the moment you go to sleep. Actually when you "sleep" you most likely are writing letters back home or filling up water or going to the bathroom cause you have no other time to do that. If you do have "free time" you should...

Pentagon Intern room and board ideas

He'll have a special TDY order from ROTC. But if I remember one person attempted to do that but finance had no idea how to process the special order and denied him housing. You'll also get it about a week before the internship starts. In fact, a friend of mine year later did the same internship...
