    Marching Band

Being a DM for a marching band is super challenging. For my school, it was essentially a full time job. I was not allowed to participate in sports because even a slight interference would be detrimental. I'm sitting in LGA on pass from USMA right now. It can be done if you put everything you...

    Branching Questions

First, I owe a huge thank you to members of the Long Gray Line and others here who helped me get into USMA. Second, I've got advice for the Class of 2020 Candidates. Keep pushing forward. Beast will really tear you apart emotionally more than anything if you're like me. It's so much easier when...

    USMA Branch Night

I've heard that Lawton is bad this time of year. And the rest of the year. :D

    CBT and Keeping a Journal

From the little research I've done online, I've found that ballpoint pens work well in these all-weather books. I haven't looked at RitR, but I'm sure that would be a nifty set to have. Ballpoint would probably just save some money.

    CBT and Keeping a Journal

I found the Field Notes brand online and saw a weatherproof memo book. I'm considering that, but I've always been partial to gel pens like the G2 from Pilot.

    CBT and Keeping a Journal

Great! This gets me excited. I didn't realize there were small steno pads, so I'll have to go shopping again. :) Thank you all!

    CBT and Keeping a Journal

SAF, Will New Cadets have time to keep a journal and make updates in the evening or more often? I'd like to have a record of my experiences and thoughts about them. As I understand it, we spend a week off post in a bivouac situation. Could I take a small, 3" x 5" journal and keep it in an ACU...

    Tape Test

    I don't have the answer.

    Does this ruin my chances?

You made it to Eagle as a sophomore which is a lot better than many Scouts can say. Showing improvement will help your file. Never let your thoughts take you out of the fight.

    Father's Day Gift Ideas

Hello SAF, I'm looking to get my dad and grandpa a gift for this Father's Day. I'm not sure how much USMA branded stuff is out there, but I'm sure some of you Old Grads and families have seen it all. My dad enjoys smoking a tobacco pipe and drinking bourbon, and my grandpa is very interested...

    Advice for Beast

Scoutpilot, thank you very much for posting that. It helps to take a step back and see the big picture and your post illustrated it for me.

    Advice for Beast

Thanks very much! If you don't mind giving yourself away, which phase of CBT and which company will you be with? I'm quite concerned about my fitness. I realize I need to spend time with my family, but I also need to improve my APFT scores. I've read that 30-50% of New Cadets fail the initial...

    Is one sport enough?

Cadets are admitted every year without any high school sports. There aren't many of us, but we exist. Having one sport is better than none. :)

    Credit Card Input

Hey SAF, Tonight, I applied for a credit card with Discover. Can anyone who has gone through the process comment on what will happen? I'm curious how many high school graduates without prior credit history get accepted. Specifically, does an appointment to an SA help expedite the process or...

    Parachute team

From what I've read, the biggest factors in trying-out for the team (and most other clubs) are your physical fitness and personality. They'll try to smoke you, but it's out of love. If you're spending a chunk of your time with a small group of young men and women, it'll be important that...

    Teacher evaluations

There are questions about this every year, so you can search to find a number of answers. You can ask any high school math, English, and science teacher that you've had.

    SLE insight

I have to agree with buff81. Aside from being competitive, performing the events with a guy or gal on either side motivated me to keep pushing and keep up with my squad mates.

    Thank You

LongAgoPlebe, I personally thank all veterans and servicemen on Memorial Day. Many of them lost brothers, and I don't want to stand by while they may feel unimportant.

    Quick Question (Points of Contact)

Should both points of contact be parents? I see that there are a number of options (Members of Congress, FFR, Grandparents, etc.), but I'm curious if one should be a parent and one another relative. Also, on the disclosure, should I allow the information to be disclosed to both points of...
