    NROTC MO Opportunities

USMCGrunt is spot on. In short, you can now reapply for the 4-year National Scholarship during your Freshman year in college. My son was not selected as a High School Senior...went to his college of choice and joined the NROTC unit as a College Programmer. Declared Marine Option and reapplied...

OCS injury -- minor surgery needed

NavyHoops...you're close...minor tweaks below in [brackets]....and I know we've wandered far afield of the OP question... OCC - They do a 10 week course for either grads or college seniors not in PLC. [correct] PLC - Can either do 1 10 week course with OCC or do 2 6 week courses over 2 summers...

    Navy Corpsman and ROTC

Nothing "low status" about being an enlisted member of the Armed Forces....today's all volunteer force is vastly different than the conscription army we had until the 1970s.... that said, the jobs are different. An Army medic or a Navy Corpsman are more like EMTs or Medical Assistants on the...

    Flat Feet AFROTC

Sheriff, I know that was meant in good humor, but perhaps will fall a bit flat (no pun intended).... My recommendation would be to still apply and let the process play out....knowing that potentially your condition is disqualifying...but that's a decision neither you or anyone else here can...

    2 year scholarship

-Get a high (285+) PFT score -Get good grades (3.0+) -Demostrate leadership potential -Be active in the unit -Don't mess up in a major way (DUI, Minor in Possession, etc) -Be early to events and volunteer when they ask for volunteers -Seek help when you need it/give help when you can -Be...

    Classes + Before school

Just bear in mind that the College orientation for new students....and the ROTC orientation are two different things. In my son's case, we went out in July(?) for a two day student orientation with the college and during that time he met his academic advisor and enrolled in his Fall classes...

    NROTC Scholarship Chances

If you don't apply, your chances are zero so.... That said, to my eye, you're very competitive. Understand though that every year, thousands of young men and women just as competitive get a "not this year" letter...to steal a line from one of the other posters here, have a Plan B...and a Plan...

    Marines sideload scholarship

Hlsng (and the OP), I went to a public land-grant school as is my son, so I'm not as familiar with the SMC. As I mentioned in the other post, from what I've read, the language leans Army....so I don't know how it applies to Navy, Air Force, Marines... This is set in Public Law: Title 10 of...

    Marines sideload scholarship

Echo Kinnem's response that there is probably nothing legally prohibiting participating in AROTC (College Program) while pursuing Marine PLC, and I also have no idea what the OSO would think but I will share that were I the OSO, I'd find it....odd. Do you simply want to serve (which is noble)...

Socks for Air Force ROTC/Field Training

+1 to the Thorlo recommendation. Probably not supposed to do product endorsements but they are truly excellent boot socks.

    Drop NROTC Scholarship

    Marine NROTC

agree with Kinnem. I will share that when my son started down this path, he filled out the on-line "request info" from the www.marines.com website. He was first contacted by the local recruiter for initial screening (i.e. ever been arrested, have a drug problem? mock ASVAB for baseline...

Awarded 4 year Nrotc national scholarship as a Freshman College Programmer

In short...no. Maybe the Navy side is different, but I don't think so. For my son, who was also awarded a 4-year scholarship after his first semester, it won't "kick in" until Fall 2015....still a great deal.

    Feb Board MO Acceptance Notification

I hear ya....but it's also important to work Plan B, C, D, E.....at the same time. My son was a good candidate (not great, but good) as a HS senior...competitive package but not selected. He pressed on. Went to his freshman year as a college programmer. Busted his hump and was fortunate to...

    Feb Board MO Acceptance Notification

Should be soon..there was a post here a couple of weeks ago from JMullins stating his XO had said to expect the results "will be out at the latest in April." Two other posters echoed the remarks. Should be "soon"(tm). I feel your pain...we were there last year.

    NROTC Marine Option TBS Dates

"... during swim quals that we did in Oct in an outside pool. The entire class was getting hypothermia. They finally brought a doc from the hospital to figure out what was going on." And that's why we keep the Navy around...Drive the boats and do all the deep thinkin' This would be 'Exhibit A'...

    NROTC Marine Option TBS Dates

so...taking a trip down memory lane, as best I can recollect from a decade ago... I was prior enlisted and a product of the MECEP program, so my milage was little different. I remained on Active Duty after commissioning and reported directly to Quantico...I "worked" in Mike Company for a...

    ROTC Scholarships and School choices

Marci, note from my moniker that I served in the Marines and not the Navy...but, by the end of my career I probably spent as much time working with the Navy as I did working alongside Marines. In general, "Engineering" is more of a position/job as opposed to how it is applied in the civilian...

Any recent NROTC MO scholarships awarded yet?

+1 USMCGrunt Congrats to rocatlin (and your son). We have the same assumption (same school as where he is now). I'm under the understanding that the scholarship won't kick in until Fall '15..which is fine. Becuase of that, he won't be eligible for CORTRAMID this year, but my...

Any recent NROTC MO scholarships awarded yet?

DS just got confirmation he's been awarded a scholarship. Since he hadn't heard anything, he assumed he wasn't selected and called the Recruiting Officer to coordinate getting his application updated for the late board. The Recruiting Officer told him he didn't need to update his application as...
