    AFROTC guidance?

Hello, My son went through the army and air force rotc scholarships processes 3+ years ago (he is on-track to graduate USAFA 2019!). Anyway, my daughter is now interested in and applying for the USAF ROTC scholarship. I assumed it would be very similar to what my son did a few years ago, but...

    Parents Weekend Football game

Did the parent's discount code come out yet? And I disagree with 'going big' for this game, especially. This is not d-1 football, this is an exhibition. This will not be a competitive game whatsoever and 3/4 of my family could not care less about football. The only reason they go is to see...

    pre-recognition?

thanks for all of the replies. He was almost SCRBd at the end of last semester but ended up passing his final k-tests. Other than calc and chem, that is the only thing he really struggles with. He is an IC on one of the more strenuous sports, so physically/athletically he has no problems...

    pre-recognition?

Anyone have any information on what pre-recognition and pre-recognition testing is? DS is going crazy worrying about it saying that he could be kicked out no matter how well he is doing in everything else.

    Math at USAFA

My son is 'not good' at math. Once he figured out how to work with the instructors, he is pulling C's in calculus. If you really desire to go there, apply. Just be prepared to work more than most others and you will most likely be on ac-pro for most of the semester.

What would happen if I got a C in a class?

my son received a C in his pre-calc class his senior year. He was still accepted.

What to do... any advice..words of wisdom?

Not sure where you are from, but at my son's HS, most of the coaches (especially the bigger ones like football, basketball, baseball and soccer) actively discourage them from participating in other sports and want them in club sports year round. I could easily see sports drunk Texas being like...

New retirement proposal bad for grads?

Pretty sure it has been more than 15-20 years. Since then corporate executive pay has increased substantially. Regardless of the performance of the company. And, yes, I am a registered republican.

    BCT ends

Awesome, congrats to your son! My DS is a Wolverine. I was to say that is 19? Thanks for explaining the flights per squadron.

    BCT ends

Yes, my DS was in that squadron as well. He was pretty excited about. He said his flight (I think, that is a subdivision of a squadron, correct?) went from literally dead last at the start of BCT to second in the entire group by the end of BCT-1. The only one ranked ahead of his was another...

    Eye Problem (USAFA)

you don't have to be correctable to 20/20 in both eyes, just one. The other can be corrected to 20/50. This is for both USAFA and AFROTC. 20/20 in one eye and 20/40 in the other is qualifying for West POint and AROTC. Corrected to 20/20 in both is qualifying for all maritme academies and...

    Displaying Leadership/Initiative/Teamwork

There is also another team aspect to wrestling that many people miss until you explain it. You compete with other wrestlers on the team for the starting spot in a particular weight class, most often in the form of wrestle offs (direct competition). However, it is in your best interests as an...

    Finish AA or Do Sports?

You said she does crossfit, does she do any crossfit games competition? Does she compete in open swim events? Triathlons, etc? Even if she doesn't do well in the "women's" division, she must still put up very good numbers. Those can all go on the resume. Also, you say you are from a small...

High School Transcript and Eye Problem

my bad, I thought you were just inquiring about admissions to the academy. My son had no interest in being a pilot and would have definitely not qualified medically due to his vision. In addition to making sure you want to attend the academy for four years, you also need to be sure you want...

High School Transcript and Eye Problem

One thing i just realized, I mentioned West Point and Army ROTC, their vision requirements are corrected to 20/20 in one eye and 20/40 in the other. So, in summary, to be eligible for each branch/ROTC re: vision only: USAFA/USAF ROTC : corrected to 20/20 in one eye and 20/50 in the other...

High School Transcript and Eye Problem

don't worry about converting your gpa, turn it in and they will do it for you. Your grades seem to be (extremely) competitive. I think your class rank is very important also, but there are other here who are much more authoritative on the subject than I. I can definitely answer your eye...

D in a college Calculus Course

I guess you are a teacher? How many 'calculus programs' (I am not even sure what a 'calculus program' really is, it is calculus) have you actually looked at in depth? If it is a technical four year degree, they all cover the same thing for calculus. Calculus is split into 3 classes at USAFA...
