Active Shooter False Alarm at USAFA Last Night

My wife was freaking out about this but that's what hormones do I guess.:p I tried my best to calm her down by telling her that a SA is the last place that any psychopath would want to go on a shooting rampage. Anything can happen but our security forces are very well equipped and trained for...

    USAFA, my chances, other experiences.

First off, don't let folks on forums get you down or pump you up. There are numerous threads related to your questions and concerns. No one here can tell you if you are competitive or not. Looking at your stats, you should be in the running. Regardless of what people say on these silly forums...

Why do people attend the Academy?

My DS is at the academy. He'll echo all of the comments made thus far. Opportunities at the academy are vast, no doubt. My DS is embracing the "suck" and he's thoroughly enjoying the academy experience. He fits the mole. I'll play devil's advocate and give my perspective as a ROTC guy. I'm from...

    ALO question

No need to "play games" when applying to the academy and/or AFROTC scholarship. As mentioned, applying for both bodes well for the candidate because it shows his/her motivation to serve. The "games" begin once he/she gets there and go into full force on active duty.:director:

    AFROTC out of USAFA?

Be honest and be able to explain yourself. The cadre realize that the academy is not for everyone. The fact of the matter is that life at the academy doesn't portray life on active duty. Your explanation should be positive and objective. You may not score a ROTC scholarship right away but it's...

    Winter break?

Can any of you experts tell me when a doolie is allowed to leave for winter break 2017? On the calendar, winter break begins on 19 Dec but can a doolie leave before then once he/she is done with finals? Thanks in advance.

Congrats to the Basic Cadets from 2021

Job well done, boys 'n girls! Now the fun starts. Never let your guard down and hit those books hard! Enjoy the rest of your 4 years by making life long friends, studying hard, and oh, don't forget to play hard too. Seeeee ya!

    Dropping out after BCT?

Not to be a "hoorah" boy and apologies for hijacking the thread but the Air Force is nothing like BCT and life at the academy does not reflect active duty for the most part. Jump through the hoops, play the game, keep your eyes on the prize, and the reward will be great. Think "training", be...

    Parents Weekend

Definitely book early, like yesterday. Depending on where you are flying in from, connecting flights to Colorado Springs can be tricky or very limited. We booked our flight into Denver and rented a car. I think it's about 1.5 to 2 hour drive to Colorado Springs depending on traffic. I'm sure...

    BCT Mail

Someone didn't have their coffee before typing this morning, broah... uhmmm, B******N. Seriously though, I think parents and loved ones have a hard time understanding the rigid rules of the military. The Air Force is especially more anal than the rest. Kind of silly if you ask me but we...

    Emotions of a Cadet

When the euphoria wears off and it's going to wear off very quickly, it's going to suck. There's no way to sugar coat it. Just when you think you've made it over the hill, there will be taller hill waiting for you. It's always going to be something. You know what, that's life! The sooner you get...

    We Are Done!

A huge congrats to class of 2017!!! You have finally arrived. I remember the day I pinned on those butter bars and thinking that all those years of pain & suffering finally paid off...that is until I stepped foot into UPT. The real pain is waiting just around the corner--the true sweet and sour...

    Advanced Classes

You're very competitive but don't let it get to your head.:) As many have said, don't worry about things that you cannot control and don't live in the past. Your ACT scores are excellent but everyone should strive for perfection. Work on finishing the rest of the school year stronger than ever...

    For Those Awaiting an Appointment/TWE

Reading through this thread, I felt compelled to put in my 2 cents. First off, a huge congrats to those who have received an appointment! It is indeed one of the greatest moments of your lives. Now get your butt in PT gear and get yourselves in the best physical and mental state of your...

    Re-Apply question

I would not be concerned about "bothering" the ALO. If anything, it shines the light on your DS's desire to go at it again. When I was an ALO, I looked for the drive in a candidate, as I'm sure most ALOs do. Almost every candidate has what it takes (intellectually and physically) to get through...

    Becoming a pilot

I don't know the current state of affairs but I'll chime in. The Air Force likes people with technical majors-engineering, science, and math. There are more technical scholarships than non-tech. After all, the Air Force is the most "techy" service of them all. Back in the day, cadets pursuing a...

    Becoming a pilot

It's good to know what you want and set goals early in life. I can totally relate to that. I'll throw in a couple of suggestions from an old man's perspective. Historically, you have the best shot at getting a SUPT slot out of the academy, so you are headed in the right path. If you want to...

    Flying First Class

Stupid rules created by spineless brown nosers but they are the rules. Play by the rules, work to change the rules, or leave. It's just reality. On a slightly different note, I personally would not pay for an upgrade (points or cash) on a domestic flight that's less than 5 hours long, especially...
