Everyone gets singled out/ "picked on" during Basic and 4-degree year. It's just the way the system works.

If you're otherwise medically qualified, the Academy will do PRK for you normally early in your junior year - but if you have PRK done in the civilian world at any time you're automatically disqualified.

They issue you some pretty good running shoes during basic, and you'll be expected to be "standardized" with your classmates for basic...but after, yeah, you can wear your own shoes with PC gear.

Regarding the music issue in general... If you come in and all you want to do is get around the 4-degree rules, such as not listening to music, you will most likely have little difficulty doing so...but is that the goal already?

It may look that way, but there is plenty of time to be bored (and worse, for your cadre to be bored), especially during first beast.

I don't think I've seen mine turn purple, but it's safe to say that neither pair is really green anymore.

Hang in there, bud. I started to get worried when I hadn't heard anything in early/mid March when appointments for my buddies started rolling in, but sure enough, it came at the end of March. That timespan is when the vast majority of people around here got their appointments - so be patient...

You'll get very used to "Sir, we are waiting for our classmates" in the front leaning rest or with your feet at 6 inches during basic and the school year...

I'm a guy in '12, but I'm pretty sure the girls regs are that their hair can be any length as long as it can be tied up off their neck in two minutes. Some friends of mine got it cut pretty short so they wouldn't have to worry about tying it up and all, but others left it and didn't seem to...
