    Early admission vs regular admission

DS received call from coach about LOA in August. Received in mail a couple of days later.

    CGAS and sports

Lacrosse is likely going to NAPS. Your DS will be in great hands when he gets to CGA as Coach runs a really good program.

Was an academy your first choice?

Agree with Christcorp that the branch may be make/break. DS was going USCGA or bust as the Coast Guard's mission was what he wanted. Plan B was private school with no ROTC. Full appointment received just before he had interview as finalist for full ride scholarship. Immediately accepted...

Conditional Appointment: What are our chances?

DS was recruited athlete with LOA and the waiver process still took approximately 4 months (although it felt like an eternity). Be patient and secure a Plan B for your DD.

    AEP Transportation

My DS is a 3/c. He usually flies in/out of PVD or Boston Logan so he can take Amtrak to New London. From the Amtrak station in downtown New London to CGA, Uber is about $6-8. The Amtrak stations near PVD and Boston Logan are easily accessible from the airport.

    Cell Phone Service

My DS is a current 3/C. Per DS, cell service at Chase Hall is spotty but, overall, DS said cadets with Verizon (not our carrier) get best reception.

    DoDMERB Consultants

We used Dr. Merchant after DS was DQ'd. If I recall his pricing structure, there is an initial flat fee ($500?) and then an additional "success" fee ($500)?) only if waiver is received. We wanted our DS to know that we were doing everything within our ability to support his dream. If waiver...

    Appointments/Acceptances/Plan B's

We were upfront with Plan B and Plan B was super understanding. Plan B also was upfront that deposit was non-refundable but admission/merit aid award would stand for soph year if DS decided not to return to SA after 1st year. IMHO, we paid $350 for backup insurance and it was well-spent.

When should we arrive for Pre "R" day activites

I would second Grevar's suggestion to arrive early enough to allow time for your Swab to adjust to the time change. We rented a condo in Boston for 2 nights before heading to a rental house about 20-25 minutes away from CGA for 3 nights. Frankly, if you'll need 2 hotel rooms like our family...

    Waiver Timeframe?

Waiver for same condition (D226.40 Current or history of osteochondral defect, formerly known as osteochondritis dissecans) took approximately 5 months for my DS last year.

    Banking

Do the cadets have to open an account with Navy Federal? What about USAA Bank? Any other viable options?
