USAFA Class of 2020 Appointment Thread

My DS is in the class of 2019. We became discouraged during this week last year when the big drop of appointments came and all he heard was silence. It wasn't until almost 4 weeks later that he finally got word that he had an appointment, too. So, if you haven't heard anything yet, I want to...

    Confused about bringing luggage

Don't do it. You will carry everything you bring. You will also be singled out for being different from everyone else, and not in a good way. Don't be another "Box Boy" (see below)! Have anything else you want after BCT sent to you. From cnet.com (June 2009) ... "For many associated with the...

Should i retake the SAT and ACT?

As far as standardized test scores go, this is a direct quote from the Academy admissions website: "Students who score below 580 verbal and 560 math on the SAT and below 24 English/reading and 25 math/science reasoning on the ACT normally will not be competitive for an appointment." You can see...

    Squadrons

I agree that the 1+3 system seems better so they can finish their difficult first year and then start fresh/settle in for the rest of the time there. But as I know very well from being married to the military, our opinions don't matter - you just do whatever they tell you to do and make the best...

    Squadrons

When my DH went to USAFA, cadets were in one squadron for their freshman year but were moved to a different squadron for the rest of their time at the Academy. Does that still happen now, or are they kept in the same squadron all four years?

BCT - Advice from current Cadets/recent Grads

The Instructions to Appointee booklet suggests an endurance program that builds up to running 4 miles per day, 5 times per week. Can basics expect to run that much every week at BCT?

    Class of 2019 Appointment Thread

Thanks, and congrats to all who've gotten appointments! I've been lurking on this forum for months and couldn't sleep last night knowing that Fridays tend to be the day appointments are posted on the portal. Suffice it to say, there was a party going on at our house at 4:30 this morning!

    years of service?

My husband graduated from USAFA and was commissioned in May of 1990. He was not eligible for retirement until May of 2010 - exactly 20 years. His years at the Academy have never been counted as time served.

Contact your admissions counselor, and they'll tell you what to do depending on the type of update it is.

How hard is it to get a waiver?

Does anyone know about waivers for a stress fracture? My son runs varsity cross country and track, and last spring during track season he developed a stress fracture in his shin. He was completely healed and running again in the summer (and he maxed the CFA mile run), but got a medical DQ for...
