Last minute questions before I Day

Sure, within limits. So if you have a few items in a backpack, that should be fine. I would be hard pressed to think of anything that you are allowed to have as a Plebe that isn't issued to you. The determination, after Plebe Summer, on you keeping the items in the backpack would be the...

    Attire for parents

Tell your mom to think long, hot, humid day. Most women will be in sundresses or shorts. There is nothing that she should dress or be formal for tomorrow. For your father, it's a mix, some wear it all day, others change into them as it gets closer to time for the swearing in ceremony. It...

Last minute questions before I Day

You shouldn't bring anything to be stored. Anything you "need" after the summer can be mailed to you or brought PPW. Leave the personal computer. You will be issued one over the summer and having a second one will be more of a hassle that any benefit you may derive from having it. Mail the...

    Arriving to I day

You won't find parking on the Yard. It's best to park at the stadium and take the shuttle bus. Traffic around the Academy is usually really heavy so taking the shuttle will help you avoid that issue.

    Reasons for NASS rejection?

It appears that a number of factors play into NASS selection outside of competitiveness. Our DS was rejected for NASS, but received an LOA. I'm sure outreach plays more of a part in the decision than simply being a competitive candidate. So I wouldn't place any credence to being rejected for...

    Still hope?

A ton of factors go into the timing. Of my BGO slate, I have two candidates that were virtually identical, one received an Appointment over a month ago, the other is still under review. The one still waiting had a completed packet in before any of my other candidates. It's a process...

    Plebe Summer/Year

Other than the honor list posted above, you will attempt to qualify pistol and rifle Plebe Summer. You have the change to earn Sharpshooter and Expert on both.

    Summer Activities

If you are weak in ECA's it won't hurt, but I wouldn't expect it to help that much either. You would probably gain more impact by organizing and leading a community program over the summer to pump your resume. Something like organizing a park clean up and improvement, that sort of thing.

    Still hope?

Yes, there is still hope. Until the TWE arrives, which could be as late as April 15th, he is still in the hunt.

    Adderall for Focus

A quote from the "Medical Considerations for Admissions" found here https://www.usna.edu/Admissions/_files/documents/MedicalAppendix1.pdf#search=appendix%20A states "Academic skills defects, such as learning disabilities or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder are not disqualifying if...

This will be a short thread

The Mids are not allowed to use skate boards, roller blades, or bicycles on the Yard. Off campus they can use them as upper class. I doubt seriously Plebes are allowed at all, ever, for any reason. But then again Plebes are allowed to have anything that resembles fun at all, ever, for any...

    B&G Officer question

We have access to a basic candidate profile, with a status for each item on the application. For example we can see a status for the CFA as "qualified", but don't have access to the actual scores. It is best to approach the BGO interview as if the BGO knows absolutely nothing about the candidate.

    Laptops?

The exact same one every other Mid is issued. Specs don't matter, they are sufficient to meet your needs at the academy. It's not like you can bring your own, can't use it on the yard, you have to use the issued device.

    Laptops?

Yes, by all means lose the cadet vernacular. The Naval Academy has Midshipmen, the SAs with students who couldn't get into Navy have cadets. DS's laptop is a Lenovo if I remember correctly. The device is pretty current and has all the horsepower needed to meet all your academic needs at the...

Yes, send scores ASAP! My DS validated 4 classes with his AP scores, and in the case of Calculus it was a combination of AP scores and validation exams.

USAFA or USNA? Objective advice requested

I understand USAFA has approximately 520 flight slots available each year. This info was difficult to glean from their website so I had to resort to searching the web for numbers. Between the Navy and Marine Corps there are roughly 420 flight slots per year, so lets say 100-120 fewer spots...

    AP Physics vs. AP Bio

Take AP Physics, either version, both if it fits in your schedule. Lean toward the Mechanics path if you can't take both. They would both look better to admissions than AP Biology. If your goal is to be in the Med Corp, you will need to major in something like Chemistry at the Academy. They...
