Our DS received an LOA yesterday.

Is it possible to defer the AROTC scholarship a year? Our graduating senior received a U.S. State Department scholarship to study Mandarin for the academic year (no credit awarded). His college has approved the deferment. He is a 4-year scholarship recipient.

If a scholarship isn’t awarded, do they often get deferred to the next board. Our DS is a 1390 Sat & 4.1 gpa, so scores a little below. He also has super strong extracurriculars.

It depends on the representative, but it wasn't questioned in a board that I was a part of - in a previous year, a student lived out of state with their mom but their dad lived in my state. Her home state is highly competitive whereas our state is less competitive.

Look for Boys State dates in other states!! You can attend programs elsewhere that may work better with your schedule. For example, our DD was a U.S. Senate Page and it conflicted with our state's program. So, she self-sponsored and went to Pennsylvania's that was later in the summer.

For Boys/Girls State, if your schedule doesn't allow you to attend the program in your state or your state/district doesn't have a program, you can attend another state's program. Our DD had a conflict and went to another state's Girls State and rocked it. I know Pennsylvania and Delaware have...
