Is public or private high school better for admissions?

Well, my son was homeschooled so I'd say that being homeschooled gave him an advantage for admissions. I set out a curriculum program that prepared him for college work. To answer your question - bloom where you are planted. Every schooling option has plusses and minuses. Emphasize the plusses...

Reminiscing From 2017 Army-Navy Game Spirit Spot

That was hands down the best video ever done for AN. I tear up every time I watch it. Every. Single. Time.

    Not a normal college

When my kid was at WP for the summer program, he told us - "We *got* to do PT in the rain." That's when we knew - this kid belonged at WP. He's an OG now. :)

    A Day packing

Some years they allow plebes to travel in civilian clothing and some years they do not, so to some degree, you won't know all of your needs until you are at WP. But you will have shopping options near WP to handle those needs that you don't yet know about. Also, each room is allowed a few items...

Homeschool course summary and transcript advice

Just wanted to encourage you. My son (OG 2020) was homeschooled all the way through. There are plenty of homeschooled kids at WP. I can't answer too many specific questions because I did this about 9 years ago and my memory is a tad fuzzy on the finer details. I did write a one-page...

    $2000 deposit?

My son was in the class of 2020 and that class had the $2000 required deposit in advance of RDay. If a cadet couldn't pay it, then it came out of his pay over time. How nice that they no longer have this requirement for the cadets.

Way off topic but figured here might be best to ask

Lots of possible outcomes. Our kid was supposed to go to Polk after BOLC but it turned out that where he went to BOLC needed more of these newly minted 2LTs to stay, so he ended up staying there and never went to Polk. That sure was an unexpected turn of events.

    TWE

@Pattonsghost - my daughter in law did the ROTC program at Texas A&M. She had a terrific experience there and would recommend it to anyone. She married my son who is a WP grad. Both loved the time at their respective schools and I think that each would have been unhappy at the other's school...

    Cadets/Mids and children

Article in Stars and Stripes about a new policy that will let cadets who become parents while attending a Service Academy keep custody of their children. Cadets at the service academies can now have children while attending school...

    TWE

You have an excellent path ahead of you. My son, a WP grad, married a fellow officer who went the ROTC route. She has zero regrets for choosing the ROTC path. They have compared notes and feels that her path was a much better path for her. You may find the same thing. A SA and ROTC are both...

    SA Grad USAA-Loan Invest it

My son (WP grad) did something similar. As did many others. He has no regrets with this decision. I don't think you are missing anything. Some people are simply very adverse to any kind of loan and so they opt to not take this loan.

    Information on Outprocessing

My kid had to leave WP on a medical leave of absence which is similar to outprocessing when you leave WP. He came home for a year. The process was stunningly long! It took well over a month - I don't remember exactly how long but it was definitely more than 4 weeks. And this was a cadet who...

    Quick question about BCT

I"d recommend a cheap watch just because so many get damaged during summer training. During the academic year, things are different. They also sell a watch at the cadet store that will work well and isn't terribly expensive.

    What should I do?

It sounds as if you have been home schooled. If this is the case, then please know that many USMA cadets have also been homeschooled. And in this case, WP will not expect your transcript to look the same as the transcript of a student who has been traditionally schooled. However, you will still...

    Academy uniforms, where to sell?

I also have my son's WP black wool jacket. And yes, thank goodness for the knit cuffs! I have no idea when I'll wear it, but it's fun to have.
