    NROTC to USNA

My DS applied to USNA last year (senior in HS). Nomination, but no Appointment. Got a 4 yr NROTC scholarship to a Senior Military College. Achieved a 3.8 GPA first semester in Mechanical Engineering (B in English, A in Calc, Chem, Engineering, Naval Science). Re-applied to USNA. Wait listed.

Thank you very much for some information, as dismal as it may be. My DS has been in touch with his BGO, but I don't believe with the admissions counselor. Should I advise him to contact that person?

Lol, thank you nodiva. Ahhh....to have a crystal ball right now. I'd even be happy with somebody telling me how many kids are on the wait list and historically, how many kids on average get pulled off the wait list and given an Appointment. Oh, and I'd really be happy to know what number my...

    Citadel v. Norwich. Input please.

Norwich will be switching football conferences in 2017. Check out this article: http://oc.norwich.edu/blog/norwich-football-to-join-newmac-conference-in-2017/ And yes, hockey is BIG time there. They are D3 in hockey, but I have been told that they are competitive enough to play D1...

    Citadel v. Norwich. Input please.

Well good luck, it would be wonderful if he saw it first hand. In the meantime, you can check out the live web cams on campus: http://about.norwich.edu/campus/webcams/jackman/ It even looks cold on camera, lol. Also, point out to him that Rooks aren't allowed to cut across the UP (upper...

    Citadel v. Norwich. Input please.

Lol, I haven't heard about mattress sledding yet. But those poor guys need to come up with some form of healthy entertainment as their options are pretty limited. As for free room and board: Norwich offers that to students who receive an ROTC/NROTC/AFROTC scholarship. Not many colleges...

Good luck! Norwich's Spring Break is the week of March 14-18.

    Citadel v. Norwich. Input please.

Keep in mind that Norwich is very accommodating. So if the overnight date at NU in April doesn't work for you, don't hesitate to reach out to Norwich to propose a different date that may suit your schedule better or can be timed over an existing school break for your DS. My guess is that they...

    Citadel v. Norwich. Input please.

I will also mention that it is a hassle to get to Norwich. Students fly in/out of Burlington, which offers limited flights that can be expensive. Burlington is about an hour's drive from Norwich. There is a shuttle that transports students from Norwich to the airport, but students do have to...

My son is a Rook at Norwich. Regarding the support: to my knowledge, Norwich does not offer a local family sponsorship program. However, they have a "No Rook Left Behind" motto...so when there is a break or a long weekend, somebody claims a displaced Rook. We live in PA, but for mid-semester...

What % of USNA's applications come from college students?

Thanks NavyHoops. I was hoping that it was a much smaller number of college applicants with a much larger acceptance rate. :-)

What % of USNA's applications come from college students?

I've looked at USNA's class profiles many times and I can see what % of the class is made up of students with prior college experience, including NAPS. (Class of 2019 is 32%). But I haven't seen data regarding how many applications the USNA gets from students with prior college experience and...

    Accepted to Norwich

My son is a Rook at Norwich. I don't want to give too much detail as I can't speak for him. But based on many emails and several visits with him in addition to much communication with several other parents of Rooks, my interpretation is that Norwich isn't for everyone. Not even for all of...

    Questions for a Plebe

Oh my gosh, that sounds awesome! My son has always dreamed of USNA and is currently on a 4 year NROTC scholarship. He has reapplied to the USNA and has also applied to transfer his NROTC scholarship to a public university as an option for next year. USNA would be his first choice, but he was...
