Navy Aviation Instructor and Airframe Questions - Pensacola/ Milton/Whiting

NIFE has civilian contracted instructors through Pensacola International (C172, pipers), possibly Jack Edwards now too, last I heard Peter Prince ended with API. Checkrides are done with military instructors. There’s fewer than 10 flights now and no solo, would have to have current NIFE stud...

    Flight School

I second this. However, I lived back gate and when I got NASW moved to Milton. Cost $58 bucks for the Uhaul that day and offered beer and steaks for help, so not too bad. With that said I was admin for the TW5 attrites for close to a year and there was a definite connection between long commutes...

10 years since rejection: some words of encouragement for those feeling down

I would’ve flown jets if 36/36 navy selections weren’t rotary my week! My NSS being lower than number of selectees had nothing to do with it! I was wronged! BUT on a serious note, growing up on the farm at least I used to make my own homegrown Bacon

10 years since rejection: some words of encouragement for those feeling down

For a couple years delay I got to: -Sit backseat in growlers -Backpack through the Rockies -Tour Ireland -Work at/with multiple 3 letters -Tour and work with the White House -Drive YPs up the east coast to New York and Boston -Have constant discussions with Captains, Admirals, and Generals whom...

10 years since rejection: some words of encouragement for those feeling down

I did not mean to imply I was disappointed with USNA itself, rather that I had intended to also talk of getting through disappointments while at the academy to broaden the scope of encouragement not just to those who have been rejected appointment but also those who are hitting lows while at...

10 years since rejection: some words of encouragement for those feeling down

I like to hop on this forum a couple times a year as I remember it being a huge encouragement to myself during the "potential candidate" days. Today I had the realization it has been 10 years since my first TWE arrived and I found myself in a spot of reflection. Hoping my experience can bring...

    SEAL Aviator 2.0

I had two squadmates in VT6 that were prior seals. Super good guys to study with. One switched after commissioning the other was a POCR board. Seen one other and only knew because he had a trident patch. While not common, I was quite surprised it was actually a thing. The two I knew didn’t wear...

    Final Semester College Grades

They never asked for mine but the grad school possibility is important. My GPA ended up being lower at USNA but grad schools factor in previous college classes. So even if you struggle in some classes (no thank you plebe chem) you can come out looking like you graduated from a service academy...

    Any 3rd time re-applicants here?

I applied three times and was in ‘19, now in flight school. With all the different routes to get in there will be a good amount of your classmates your age. In Pcola the average ensign is around 26 so it stops being noticeable. Good luck!

    Transferring to USNA

That’s awesome. He has a really good mindset for the academy it seems, many people are afraid to ask but the only definite “no” is if you don’t. Definitely depends on who is in charge at the time I think. He will be very happy for the validations later on.

    Transferring to USNA

I transferred after two years, USNA didn’t even want my second semester transcripts. Keep a record of them as I was actually able to validate some history classes by showing them to the dean plus a class syllabus. However this is very rare and only because the course was specifically tailored to...

    Commemorative USNA Pistols?

‘19s just came in from Colt. 1911 Gov with Gov serial and everything. They look beautiful. (Although we had to order them through Westpoint’s team ). I’m pretty sure it was just done by our classmates and not necessarily USNA sponsored.

    Golden Handshake

At least in the classes that graduated during my four years those that didn’t graduate due to weight/fitness still had to pay back monetarily or enlist. Golden handshake is more about not having to owe the government something else after being denied commissioning not the fact that you “got...

Reapplying a third time as 3rd Class NROTC Midshipman.

NavyOption, I applied three times before getting in. I don’t regret it at all. If you’ve done the app twice already You are already well practiced so it doesn’t really take that much effort in the long run to fill it out. I am a huge advocate of keeping all doors open, if you apply and get the...

    Where to Reapply From

Definitely go with what will put you in the best situation personally (I too would choose Gettysburg), I ended up going to community college for two years before getting accepted purely due to financial reasons. Obviously focus on STEM classes, but the fact you are reapplying while still...

VT-NA and the Intercollegiate Flight Team

Recent grad here. There will be so many emails about VTNA and how to join (basically just pay the dues) that it will be impossible to miss. The flight club and VTNA tend to be directly connected. Wether or not that can count as your “sport” changes semester to semester, Dant to Dant, etc... as a...

    Delayed Flight School Question

Hello! Currently in A-pool, there’s a lot of stuff going on delaying the pipeline from “clearing” as I’ve heard it usually does around this time. I got here in October and as happens in the navy I was just informed I have ~9 weeks left to wait. No hold ups on my end. Personally I am enjoying the...

Will the USNA still notify me of Appointment even if my medical records are not finished yet? And what happens if you don’t pass Plebe Summer?

I got an LOA for medical remedial when I got in... so technically they can tell you that you are accepted, but you will not receive (or at least I’ve never heard of anyone receiving) your acceptance package until the medical paperwork is turned in.

When is determination of restricted line made?

I had two separate roommates that signed on I-day a contract of sorts stating they understood they were restricted to certain assignments (marine ground or restricted line due to colorblindness). Yet I had someone in my major who came in with an issue that ended up leading to a golden handshake...
