Yes, I have a health insurance plan through Blue Cross Blue Shield, that I purchased on an exchange that was made possible by the Affordable Care Act AKA Obamacare. So, I have (insurance through) Obamacare or the Affordable Care Act. No need to play with semantics for no purpose.

@beyond @LineInTheSand Quick question on the Fitness Test 1) are we allowed to go at our own pace during the push up test? I always seem to get more pushups when I do them faster 2) do we start in the rest (flat on the floor) position like in the videos or are we allowed to start from the UP...

Doesn't matter, @Peanut I've been training for a few weeks and I can do 51 push ups like nothing now.

    Laptop NIST compliance??

This isn't correct in a lot of different situations. Higher ranked colleges have harsher exams/curves/grading/etc than lower ranked colleges, this is natural to compensate for the different ability level of the student. A 'C' student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology could probably...

This is nothing but a condescending, opinionated posting which contains no factual refutations. Of course, age gives you perspective. Knowledge and perspective are totally different things. Any rational person can see @Physicsguru 's posting history that he is biased, even simply from looking...

Now this is complete idiocy. The reality is simple, if you are an (unsponsored) prepster at MMI, GMC, NMMI, or anywhere else the stakes are high and you must chase grades to gain a competitive advantage and secure an appointment. Your emphasis must be on grades because this is a quantitative...

I would say got for Maine Maritime and avoid Marion Military, since it's so far away and will be expensive. I was accepted to this school after a year of (deans list level) college work at a state university.

Did some good work today guys. Did about 120 sit ups, including 50 consecutively (upping my max from 40). Did about 150 push-ups, upped my max to 33 consecutively, but my arms were sore. And about 1.5 mi in 10:50. If I work like this every day it will come I hope.

Thank you for all of your insight and assistance @KPEngineer , very much appreciated. But the choice of a maritime academy, which would cost me $60k over 3 years (I already have a year of college) and the Merchant Academy isn't as simple as $60k over 50 pushups. It's is there a better chance...

I mean, even if I couldn't become a pilot I would still love to sail, 1 month on/1 month off would be preferable, but if I have to sail for longer periods, I don't think I'd have an issue.

@beyond I also have admission at two maritime academies (Cal Maritime and Texas Maritime) which don't have the stringent requirements. I'm thinking it might be less of a risk to go there. But I'm also very interested in the "Harbor Pilot" job. Do you know if its very competitive to become a...

This whole fitness thing seems a little excessive to me since my goal here is only to sail commercially. 51 push ups is kind of a lot, especially when the vast majority of the population can barely do 5-10.
