    Suicides

Very alarming. I had the unfortunate opportunity to attend 9 memorials for Soldiers in the last year or so, 7 of them were suicides. I don’t know what the solution as a whole is, but I hope we find it soon.

    Army Branches for Civilian Success

Personally, I recommend you go combat arms. But whatever branch you choose, fight to get assigned to a BCT. With the exception of a few branches (aviation, cyber, ADA, and probably a few others) there’s a job as a LT in a BCT and you’ll learn a lot there. Regarding getting out after your...

Should I be preparing for APFT or ACFT?

The APFT is still the test of record right now. I’m sure at some point you’ll take the ACFT once you start but it hasn’t replaced the APFT yet

    Army BOLC dates for 2019?

    I’m still kickin!

    Army BOLC dates for 2019?

For clarity (though the above is correct), the way it happened for us at FA BOLC was on the date of your commissioning it was a reserve commission, but as we inprocessed Fort Sill one of the steps was to complete a new RA commission form. Essentially the same exact form and our battalion...

Dumbest "Boot" Thing Anyone Has Ever Done

You can see cars purchased with that same interest rate in the barracks parking lot of a brigade just returning from deployment. I just can’t bring myself to make car payments...probably why I’m still driving a 10 year old vehicle.

    Army BOLC dates for 2019?

Lawton is a very unique place that I take pride in being able to avoid. I promise I’ll post an update on what I’m doing soon (not that I’ve ever really known what I’m doing, I just roll with it). I do read the forums regularly, just don’t post much

    Army BOLC dates for 2019?

If he has questions about Carson, let me know. Busy post, but a good time. Also, he should look into the epic pass, hell of a deal for military since he’s into snowboarding.

How long were you on the wait list for Fort Sill?

Definitely agree with the above, I lived off post at Sill. The center of Lawton is not great, looking west has nicer neighborhoods and looking east has opportunities for more land. I knew a few people that lived on the south side of town and lived in a nice neighborhood. Medicine Park or north...

    ROTC/Reserve Units (Advice needed)

If you only knew how much experience you were talking to in this thread..... you might just listen. You sound like a lot of young kids, you’re ready to put on the uniform and change the world. And that is fantastic, don’t get me wrong, but the world is still going to need changin’ in 4 years...

    ROTC/Reserve Units (Advice needed)

Man do I wish that was true, my brigade is embarking on deployment #3 since I’ve been with them.... I do completely understand (and don’t disagree with) your point, though. To the OP, heed Clarksons advice. Unless you deploy with the NG unit you join, you’re not going to have any more...

    Early Commission

It shouldn’t be too difficult. The reason you see challenges with switching year groups is with the army trying to manage the amount of officers in various grades. Cadet command gets told to produce X amount of officers each year and federal law mandates the end strength for the maximum allowed...

    Health insurance before BOLC?

Ahh. Yea, it’s not a widely known thing, but it exists. I commissioned in 2014 and it existed then.

    Health insurance before BOLC?

Is this new? When I commissioned and I know for a year or so after that atleast (after that I stopped keeping up) 2LTs going active duty were in fact covered under TRICARE while waiting to go AD. Is there something new written that states this? I’ll try to dig it up but I have the memo from when...

Security Clearance and Army Cadet Command

Yes, JPAS. Ask your cadre about it. Also, yes, the people that handle clearance investigations are investigators from the Office of Personnel Management. Be truthful and you’ll be fine. They want to make sure you don’t have anything in your past that a potential adversary could use against...

    DS Intending to Enlist Instead

Understand completely. At the time I was in school I felt a lot like him, did not enjoy the whole school part of college. If I could go back now I’d pick a different degree and look forward to class. Crazy how time changes things. Best of luck to him as he weighs his options, might be one of...

    DS Intending to Enlist Instead

I think this will be a good thread for your DS to read. It sounds like he wants to get away from school ASAP and get into a uniform full time as fast as possible. Nothing wrong with that and most certainly nothing wrong with the enlisted side of the house. I’ve had friends go that route both...

Life after your first 5 years of active duty

A little late to this part, but if you’re torn between Chem and Engineers, go Engineer, you’ll get to actually do your job. As a ChemO, you’re job will be USR, and the only thing you’ll be advising the commander on, with the exception of a random field problem where someone wants to play with...
