What are some of your greatest memories from the Academy?

Following the ABC news article on USMA's horrible security: "Well the real solution would be doors that work, but until then..." -LTG Caslen

    Life of a Junior Officer

As an Army 2LT, and I am sure it's the same for the other services, knowing the rules/regs that apply to you is crucial. The military is a big place, and it is easy to get lost in the system. Look up what monetary allowances you're entitled and keep an eye on your myPay for discrepancies, know...

    5 years later

All, 5 years ago I stumbled across this forum as a college junior beginning to consider the service academies. In less than a week I will graduate USMA and commission into the Air Defense Artillery. It has been a long, challenging, and rewarding adventure. If anyone has any questions...

    Signal Officer Career

Disclaimer: I'm a USMA cadet, not an officer. The signal officers I have interacted with, especially within my IT major, have said a majority of their work as LTs revolved around making sure their unit's networks were always up and running. You'll be working with a lot of routers, switches...

    Questions Thread

To clarify on this "credits" do not transfer. Everyone must take the same minimum number of credits to graduate. However, classes taken in college (as well as some college level classes taken in HS) will let you test out of lower level classes.

    Physical Fitness at West Point

As for maxing, West Point has the same "maxes", but getting a 300 is still only an A- (seriously). To get above a 300 you must max ALL three events, then you can start accumulating points up to a supermax of 375.

Bodybuilding as a club at West Point?

Every company has a sandhurst team, which is a team that competes in the spring against all the companies in the corps and other countries' academies' (such as RMC) and ROTC teams. It inolves a lot of running in ACUs, marksmanship, and other military tasks. You can have protein, creatine...

    Parent Help

Hey, Jen, I went to NASS and AFASS and not SLS because my parents thought the Navy and Air Force were safer and whatnot. I had a blast and it sort of put my parents over the acceptance threshold of the military. A visit to West Point later and I was marking West Point as my choice on the...

    West Point and AP

They don't like to validate cadets out of chem usually, but they do let a few skip. It will come down to how you do on the placement exam in CBT along w your AP score.

Fright to the Point. All about some of the ghosts you may encounter as a cadet here

    Daily life at the academy

You have a very limited amt of time to shower, and if you begin to smell it will most certainly become mandatory (and after morning PT you will probably smell). Even after CBT most of the barracks have no curtains around showerheads even if you have your own. You will shower with others all 4...

    Daily life at the academy

Pull ups will only be done at Muscular Strength and Endurance PT (every other day when not in the field). It is not on the APFT. You will never be tested on it during CBT. Take it from a bad runner-- run hills before basic. But don't worry, you will improve your run time immensely during CBT...

    - you can have your cell phone after A-day - language majors at the academy are encouraged to double in 2 languages or another major. Underage Drinking Project

Disregarding all "should ___ be able to drink" and such arguments, here are some observations and suggestions from a USMA yuk. OBSERVATIONS: cadets see drinking not as a social outing but as a way to cram in as much fun and stress repression in a weekend as possible...this leads to...

    Daily life at the academy

Urine test at 5am. It continues throughout your 4 yrs at the academy. Cadets names are randomly generated and tested periodically (especially after breaks).

    Daily life at the academy

Every other day you have dean's hr, which is when the hr after lunch is reserved for academic labs and lectures. The other days have comm's hr, which are reserved for briefings and ethics education. If you don't have any of these things during that hr you can use it to study or nap.

    Questions Thread

There is a kid in my company double majoring in mechanical and civil engineering, but he validated a lot of classes. Still, he is VERY stressed already as a first semester yuk. There is not a lot of overlap since the two have strict curriculum to be ABET accredited. That being said, double...
