ahh I just got home and checked the mail- and you are completely right! Senator Kirk was the nominating source. Ironically, I also got a letter from Durbin today with a nomination to USAFA!

I believe it was Senator Durbin. My portal states "Congress/Senator 2" for my nominating source. It is odd that it does not specify who nominated me, but I am assuming it was Senator Durbin because my congressman passed out his nominations over a month ago.

I submitted my applications to both USNA and USAFA by early September.

If I accept an appointment to the Naval Academy would I still be competitive for an Air Force Academy Appointment? Would I be able to later on decline USNA and accept USAFA?

My district sits just outside downtown Chicago, so it is fairly populated and competitive. I have already reached out to both of my senators and explained the situation and requested a navy nomination.

I did end up getting a remedial for the leg, since it is a rod down the shin. On the other hand, even if I get DQ'd for a pilot slot I would still be just as happy to serve my country in another way through the Air Force.

I just received a LOA today! I completed the application roughly 2 weeks ago, so I was shocked when the year updated my portal so quickly. Definitely thought there were other candidates that deserve it more than me.
