When do coaches officially say you are a Recruited Athlete

For our daughter I think what sealed the deal of recruited athlete in our mind was that her MALO e-mailed her and said that he could have only very limited contact (meaning non at all) with her so as not to violate NCAA recruiting rules. Other than that, Mom3boys is right on.

    Driving Directions....

Honestly, nothing is too scenic when driving from Philadelphia through NJ. I would suggest to take I-95 North to New Jersey Turnpike North to Palisades Intersate Parkway. You will take that right to Bear Mountain and veer off to West Point.

"Early is on time" R-Day reporting

It will probably be a little different this year as compared to last. Last year they reported to the Hollinder Center because Ike Hall was being renovated. I am assuming they will go back to IKe Hall this year as it has in the past. If that’s the case, the parking will not be as convenient as...

Pardon my paranoia, but it's been a long year.

Trust me, been there. I remember it seeming like there has to be more to do at this point. For a year, seemingly everyday, we all focused on what needed to be done. Then, everything was complete and we just waited, and prepared, for R-Day. If everyhting is green and all papers are filled out...

    Army-Navy Game

Another note on the tickets: The first tickets for Army Navy are distributed by "priority" points (its that way for USMA, so I am sure that USNA has a similair system) sometime in June. That gives time for people (including incoming classes) to buy season tickets, make donations, etc...(thats...

    Parents on R-Day

Agree about the Hop, with one exception. They have a professional photographer set up in the auditorium. If you get over there quickly after the dinner and get in line before going through the receiving line you will have an opportunity to get pictures with your cadet, you all dressed up and...

    Jump School

Practical??? Not really sure, however I can tell you my daughter gave up two weeks of her summer leave that could have been spent home for the opportunity to go to Airborne!!! Experience as a 19 year old looking towards an army career .... Priceless!!!

Sports scholarship for USMA application process help?

The NCAA Clearinghouse and scholarships are really two different things. While it is true that the service academies do not provide athletic scholarships (not necessary), in order to compete on any Div I team at West Point (swimming would be one of those), an athlete must be "cleared" by the...

    Direct Deposit

The whole money and bank account thing is confusing. What we did was contact the bank we decided to use (we went with USAA because of the ability to scan in a check and drop it in our childs account. She has access to the money immediately). They sent us a direct depost form filled out with...

    Track/CC recruiting

Just send the head coach an e-mail introducing yourself with a short bio (both academic and athletic) expressing your interest in attending WP. Trust me, he (or one of his staff - he has a coach that deals with recruits) will get back to you. You will not be bothering them.

    Boys State

While its importance in admissions is something that only the admissions people really know, WP carries it on their admissions stats just like they do for varisty athletics, letter winners, etc.., IE, 25% attended Boys State (Girls State). My impression from that is that carries some weight.

Can I get more info from anyone who has attended R-day Rehearsal?

It was a pretty cool day. You would think that you wouldn't be nervous being that it is only "practice", but you will be surprised. I couldn't help but thinking "I could be this kid's father, and he is screaming at me!!!". But everyone is a very good sport about it. I don't want to give away...

    One-Way Ticket

Daughter is now looking towards the end of Plebe year ... we have had many ups and downs over this past year. The other day she said to me "Can you believe I've been gone for 8 months now?? It seems like yesterday!" ... in some ways yes, it's been quick, but other days, it drags on forever...

    For the females

FWIW: Our daughter kept hers longer. She felt being able to pull it back kept it off her forehead and ears during the very hot summer.

    Filling Rx at West Point

This is good advice. Getting prescriptions filled apparently is not all that easy, especially during Beast and the first part of plebe year.

    Panorex and Bitewing radiographs

We personally waited for direction from the Academy. However I don't think its too early. If for some reason the dentist decides that the wisdon teeth should come out it gives you plenty of time. Just one persons opinion

    Need Practical Advice re: A-Day

    1. These times were pretty accurate for 2014. We picked our daughter back up about 7am on Sunday and had her back by about 3pm. 2. I think the Thayer thing is a rumor from the past. We had heard the same thing but it is apparently not true. That being said we stayed off post in a hotel...
