    Branch Night Class of 2020

That's generally what I have heard. Rather than picking their post on Post Night, they supposedly are given an envelope. That suggests that the assignment could pretty much be anywhere and they'd probably never know if it was done in any type of selection order based upon the lower ranked...

Is a speeding ticket a CI?

It's typically an issue if he amount of the fine exceeds a dollar threshold of around $200-250. If the fine is significant, I suggest, among other things, that you keep a record of the ticket and the payment of the fine because you don't want to have to try to track down that information later...

    Branch Night Class of 2020

Do you have any insights on exactly how they determine the postings for cadets who will marry shortly after graduation and be stationed together?

I am a Firstie (Class of 2020) -- Ask Me Anything

That's very interesting. However, I think (or so I've been told) that Infantry can be trumped by another branch who lists a cadet as most preferred when Infantry rates the person preferred or least preferred. Let's say that branch is the cadet 2nd choice, then depending upon where on the OML...

    Chances with a 24 ACT

Remember USMA super scores so you can take it several times and work on just one or two sections at a time to build a higher composite score.

I am a Firstie (Class of 2020) -- Ask Me Anything

Not necessarily. If Infantry ranks you least preferred or preferred, you many not get Infantry depending upon where you fall on the OML. Early returns on this new system revealed that some branches, like Infantry, did a poor job ranking the cadets - at least prior to the interview. The new...

I am a Firstie (Class of 2020) -- Ask Me Anything

I don't believe that to be an entirely accurate statement. The OML is made up of 55% academic, 30% military score, and 15% physical score. Demonstrating proficiency in the military and physical areas is significant. It appears to some that one of the goals of the new system is to encourage...

Prosecutors Who Lost Gallagher Case Receive Awards for 'Superb Results'

And on rare occasions, a WP cadet can cross commission to Navy and go to BUDS right after graduation as was the case with a cadet out of the 2017 graduating class.

    The Ritz they are not.

    West Point Barracks Renovations?

It would not be Davis because it was just opened two years ago. However, I believe the Academy is on a renovation campaign to update the dorms and there is a schedule for the renovations. I do not know when they plan to complete the last one.

    Sports at USMA

I would think that before you walk on, you would want to initiate a conversation with the coach or one of the coach's assistants and find out what opportunities are available.

Then there are these "words of wisdom and advice" from a current USNA MID 2/C

Ditto on mine! He does things like volunteer to man the desk at the barracks or he gets permission to schedule training or other exercises. He even managed to take his finals early this year and avoid the grad week parades! OldRetSWO is right about the athletes. I'm not sure some of them even...

Then there are these "words of wisdom and advice" from a current USNA MID 2/C

Alas, the young midshipman has much to learn. Clearly, he has not learned that the parade is a test of of one's ingenuity skills. The best and the brightest at the Academy have undoubtedly developed their ingenuity skills to the degree necessary to avoid having to prepare for and participate...

    Accident at West Point

The vehicle was a light medium tactical vehicle - a 5-ton cargo truck with a high center of gravity. Thoughts and prayers for all.

Is it more competitive to get a 4 year scholarship (AROTC) at Texas A&M than say a regular non SMC

It's not necessarily tougher to get into A&M if you are applying from out of state. A&M guarantees admission to in state students in the top 10% of their class. That's how affirmative action is addressed in Texas. If a student is not in the top 10%, it can be dicey, even for those from top...

Failing a class in Yuk year.

Sorry, nice hurried math on my part adding 48 to 29 to come up with 77! I agree with the thought on the turn backs, which is why I said the class as a whole was down by the incorrect math number from the summer. I wondered how many turn backs might have been added. I also wondered as per the...

Failing a class in Yuk year.

There's even less inflation than that for Class of 2022 as a 3.35 CPS will put in you the top 8.5%. Someone asked earlier about the number of separations. For current Cows, class rankings as of July, 2018 were computed on a class size of 1229. At the next ranking as of the completion of AYT...

    Book Stipend

Well.... DS is a Cow and he just discovered that he had an account where the Academy was depositing the book money. He didn't know about the account which has several thousand dollars in it. He said he hasn't been purchasing books. Don't ask me how you take classes without having the books...

German Proficiency Badge at West Point

I saw that badge on a number cadets when they were dressed in their whites. It was this huge gold badge that dwarfed all of the other badges. Much larger than the Supe's Award of Excellence and Combat Dive and Airborne badges. I had to ask DS what it was since the size made you think it must...
