Does anyone know of any good books about the Coast Guard?

    declining appointment/backup plan

A word to the wise: pursue other options as wholeheartedly as you pursue the West Point appointment! I went to SLS. I loved it. It was seriously one of the best weeks of my life. I got back and I KNEW that's where I'd be going. R-day could not come soon enough. When the LoA came I was...

    California Noms

Anyone else from California have their interview today? My congressional one was in person and went great. The Senator Feinstein one was over the phone and kind of a disaster . Oh well, you win some, you lose some.

    Getting to USMA

I plan on doing an overnight visit at West Point sometime this fall. I'd be going without my parents, so I'm not sure what the best way to get from the airport to USMA is. Any advice?

    USMA Engineering

Today I was told by a USNA admissions officer that the engineering departments at USAFA and USNA run circles around USMA's. Is there any truth to that or was she just trying to sell her school?

    LOA/Nom

Should I include a copy of my LOA in my nomination applications? On the bottom of the letter it says copy: "MALO's name," so I would think it would list my Congressman too if he was going to get a copy. But I've also heard on these forums that there's no need to include a copy because your MOC...

Is there a movie theater within the walking privileges area?

    Candidate Statements

I was working on my candidate statements in a word document and then I copy and pasted them onto the application. When I did this, it got rid of all the apostrophes . Just thought I'd warn you guys so you don't accidentally submit an essay that has had all the apostrophes deleted.

    SLS Travel

Because of the relative lack of flights to Newark, I had to purchase a plane ticket that leaves Friday night from San Francisco and arrives at 6:00 AM in Newark the next day. Unfortunately there won't be any cadets there to start picking up kids until 9:00 (or at least that's my understanding)...

    Mountaineering Club/Team

Does anyone know how hard it is to make the mountaineering club team? I have some very limited previous experience (about 25 hours over the course of a week) so I know how to belay and make all the knots. It's something I'd really like to get into if I went to USMA, but I'm wondering if I...

    AP Scores

Do the service academies look at your AP scores for admissions purposes? I'm taking three AP tests over the next few weeks and you get to send your scores to 4? schools for free. I don't want to send them to USMA if they won't even consider it as part of my file.

    Osgood-Schlatter Disease

I have Osgood-Schlatter Disease and just found out from the DODMERB website that it's disqualifying. Is it possible to get a waiver for this or is it a lost cause? I'm only a junior so I haven't had the medical exam yet.

    Did I screw up?

As everyone probably knows, the PCQ opened today. I went on, entered my SSN and DOB, and went to the application. I figured it would take me to some page where my PCQ was shown as complete since I applied for SS. But then it took me to the first page of the PCQ but with all the information...

    California Senator Nomination

Do the California senators hold interviews both in person and over the phone or just over the phone? I live a couple hours south of Sacramento where their offices are, but I'd rather drive up there than have a phone interview. Btw, I'm hoping for class of 2015...

    Med School After USNA?

I know it's possible to go to med school after attending the USNA, and it'll require a lot of hard work. But I've heard that *officially* they discourage midshipmen from going to medical school because it's restricted line. On CC, one person even said that your BGO will make note of the fact...

    summer seminar

The summer seminar application is about to open and I've heard it's easier to get in if you apply early. Would it be better to apply as soon as it opens with my sophomore PSAT scores or wait a while for my undoubtedly higher junior PSAT scores? My sophomore scores are verbal-63, math-69...
