    4-yr Scholarship Chances

He looks like a solid candidate! There are some threads that list qualifications of recipients (Check the "Competitiveness of Marine Scholarships" thread for recent posts among others). Its my understanding that nearly all ROTC scholarships are tuition, books, fees and modest monthly...

The wait is over here... No longer waiting :frown: TWE arrived today. This forum and the people participating have been a Godsend in getting through this process. Good luck to all still waiting! DS goes on to Plan B - MO NROTC Scholarship to UT-Austin...Hook'Em Horns!!

    Competitiveness of Marine Corps Scholarship

DS awarded scholarship from an early board (notified in November). Stats: - 1280 SAT, 98.8 weighted average - HS Rank 10/265 - Two sport varsity athlete (Track - all four years, X-C - three yrs) - Also played BB and FB as a freshman...not varsity - GT/Distinguished Scholar academic track...

    NROTC Marine Corps Major Preference?

This is an interesting question we still have AFTER being awarded the scholarship. DS chose an Engineering Tier 2 major in his MC Option application with the (mistaken) belief that the same requirements for selection applied to the MC Option as the Navy Option. Although he excels at math and...

    Who is still waiting?

Nothing yet... Nothing in mail again today...no TWE or BFE. Have been following this thread and made the mistake of reading "April is Great Month" thread from last year. :frown: Son gets home from track practice each day and quietly looks through the mail, then moves on. I try not to...

    ROTC Lifestyle

Not sure of the dorm situation there, but A&M is a "military" school with many ROTC students, so Corps Cadets have a lot more opportunity to room together. Son purposeful choose UT over A&M (second choice) in order to be in a smaller unit....just his choice. He did list he was looking for...

    ROTC Lifestyle

Son will be at UT-Austin in the NROTC Marine Corps Option this fall. Reading through some the program material, it indicates that participation in other college activities is encouraged (meaning "have some fun"), but do not forget that you are here for a reason - NROTC - and that NROTC...

    Encouraging story about TWE

That was a great story. DS doesn't follow this forum much, but I printed and gave it to him. Thanks for sharing.

    What is the correct program?

Nearly every NROTC unit has the Marine Corps option available. There may be the rare exception, so best to check directly with the school you are interested in. Make sure to have "back up" schools ranked according to your preference on the NROTC sch. application. My son received the MC Option...

    Sports

From everything that I have read or heard sports is definitely important, but really just having a varsity letter in ONE sport will do nicely. I would not worry about not participating in multiple sports. Its difficult to do (and letter) at large high schools anyway. Good luck!...and I would...

    Dodmerb update for Jan. scholarship

I'm thinking that is EXCELLENT news for you :thumb: It said the same after my son was offered MC NROTC scholarship a few weeks ago.

Has anyone gotten a NROTC scholarship lately?

Yes, generally you need to apply for admissions to all the school choices you rank on your ROTC application. Most scholarships are offered about the same time or AFTER the admissions deadline! Son was accepted at 4 of his 5 choices, including first choice. Guess its a good thing he was not...
